To the Root's story of necessity, passion and product evolution

I am a dreamer by nature who enjoys colour, texture and design. My shop is a reflection of my mind - I make what I love. I'm not afraid to try new things and I hate to limit myself creatively.

I began my shop as a way to share my love of baby items and attachment parenting products with the world. I discovered baby-wearing with my third child and purchased a sling online. I then decided I would make my own for my 4th baby, but the pattern sat in a drawer for a couple years. After my 5th baby in 2008, I asked for a sewing machine for my birthday and spent hours creating items for my own children. As people began taking interest, I opened my Etsy shop after my 6th child and have continued to sell many local items as well.

As my children get older, I am drawn to create new items that expand my horizons. As a mother of 7, I feel passionate about creating affordable, ethically-made products that will last and I am forever thankful to my lovely customers who allow me to do this.

My name is Janelle and I am the mother of 7 beautiful children! I love to sew and create when I have the time. I aim to make each piece a personal reflection of the love that went into making it.

Care instructions

Cloth Diapers- Many of our fabrics are pre-washed, shrunk and activated. You may still wish to wash and dry them before use. All cloth diapers can be washed in hot water with mild detergent that is safe for organic fabrics. Hang drying is optimal for reducing environmental impact, but all diapers can be tumble dried as well.

Cloth Pads- Rinse soiled pads in cool water and follow cloth diaper instructions

Slings and Wraps- All slings are made to be exceptionally roomy and fit all body types. Think of your sling as a piece of clothing-accidents happen, especially with little babies. All slings are washable and dry-able with other like fabrics. Linen slings may shrink slightly, but will become softer and more comfortable with each wash.
