Is it driftwood or fossils? Or is it tiny sculptures that have been carefully carved, wonderfully treated, and playfully formed? Driftwood is amazing. The pieces of driftwood that I’ve picked for my next piece are shown in the photo on the storefront. These pieces are just exquisite. Often the side you don’t see is just as beautiful as the side you do. I am so blessed to sculpt with driftwood. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I do. B.

5 out of 5 starsThis is the 2nd frame I've bought and I couldn't be happier! It is even more beautiful in person. I bought it to be the focal point of a photo collage on my wall and it is perfect. It shipped out quick and was packaged well. And Barbara is super sweet. I definitely plan on buying more.

Sustainability Statement About Materials
Driftwood is marine debris. It can have a role on a beach, but not typically on public beaches where animals and insects do not nest or forage due to the proximity to people. Even in a natural setting driftwood is not a significant resource because it is ephemeral - there one day and gone the next due to wind and wave action.
My scavenging practice involves selecting precisely the pieces (twigs only) I need and leaving the rest as is. I roam public beaches only as driftwood is often removed by beach management and discarded any way. I visit beaches in the spring, summer, and autumn to avoid clearing this natural resource from a single area.

Where do you find and gather the driftwood you use?
Sourcing Materials – Driftwood
The driftwood I use has been found on various beaches on the eastern shores of Lake Huron*. I personally scavenge the beaches and pick and choose each piece (or is it the other way around…do the pieces choose me?). Any way there is a direct connection between me and the pieces I find and use.
See my Sustainability Statement About Materials for related information.
*Lake Huron is one of five fresh-water lakes that make up the Great Lakes of North America. These lakes lie along the southern boundary of the Canadian Shield.
Does your sustainability ethos include packaging?
Custom built, light yet very sturdy, sustainable packaging.
Yes! Since each piece is unique, a custom box is built for each shipment. The only "new" component of the package is tape. All the cardboard and paperboard used is repurposed. The cardboard is from deliveries I receive and the paperboard can be tubes from rolls of paper towels and toilet paper. Each package is made sturdy yet light using these materials to help keep shipping charges low. Sometimes though cardboard isn't strong or safe enough. When shipping a large flower or mirror a great distance, a custom wooden box is made.
