    "Perfectly Imperfect" - Artist Statement

Hi, I'm Amy. My goal is to make pottery that is inspired by two things; the Japanese philosophy of Wabi Sabi, and seasonal aspects of Nova Scotian culture.

Why Wabi Sabi? I lived in Japan for 3 years and was influenced by their ability to see beauty in the imperfect. Small irregularities and abnormalities become unique points of interest - basically, because something is different, it's beautiful. So, translate this into making pottery, I want my pieces to be unique. I want you to see that hands have shaped & moulded each piece.

Why Nova Scotian culture? Well, I'm an outdoors kind of a girl. My favourite moments are taken from being outside with my two girls; hiking through the woods in the snow, playing in tidal pools at the beach, trying to smell every new flower in the spring - these are the things I want to bring to you.

When you use my pottery I hope that you can be transported to somewhere rustic - perhaps a camping trip or a cottage, maybe you can imagine digging your toes into the sand. By using my pottery I hope that you can relax a little more, dream a little more, and enjoy your everyday life.
