My father was an artist, and in my child's eyes, I wanted to be an artist, too. I wanted to draw, paint and work with pastels, and create like my dad did, but, alas, I couldn't draw a straight line to save my life. In my tweens, Dad introduced me to photography - my first attempts were typically terrible, but I persevered. I inherited Dad's old camera, moving me from the Kodak instamatic to a little 35mm, complete with light meter and flash. I used this camera for years, driving my friends nuts as I made them stand still while I got meter readings, getting them to repeat poses over and over again until I got the right one. When I graduated from highschool, Dad bought me a Canon AT-1, and I dove into photography like never before. After several more new cameras, thousands of slides and prints, and years of forcing people to sit through slide shows in our basement, I wondered where on earth I was going with all of this. It still didn't feel like enough. I still wanted to be an "artist". Enter the Photoshop Artistry course. I had been using Photoshop to restore old photos for an archive project, but this - this was a whole new ballgame! This was what I was missing! I could "do" art, after all! I set myself on the learning curve, which was (and still is) steep. After a while, I began to think of my creations as being a chapter of who I was, and named it, Water to My Soul, after taking a picture of my pregnant daughter wading in the water; this daughter - so precious to me, and this baby girl, a gift from God to bring joy to our hearts after losing her big sister. It was like water on parched lips, reviving my soul, bringing me peace. After being encouraged to move farther with my work, I made the herculean leap of faith, and turned my heart and soul into a business. I am standing at the brink of this new journey, and am waiting eagerly to see if it brings a new path to my feet.
