I cannot say enough about this beautiful basket... or its maker! Laken was so above-and-beyond generous and helpful with sorting out the cross-country shipping for such a large item. It arrived swiftly and perfectly packed and even more gorgeous and carefully made than it had appeared in the pics on screen. It will be well used and cherished in my home and garden. Thank you so much, Laken, for your great kindness and beautiful work! <3
Dreaming in the fabrics of life
Please check out this amazing interview I was privileged to be asked to do!
Thank you Subkit for the opportunity.
It’s so nice of you to have taking time to stop by my page and check out what I have to offer.
I’ve always loved blanket scarves, you should see my closest, some are square and some are 2 metres long by 60” wide. I wanted to make some Melton Wool Shawls with a Navajo or Aztec print and yes there is fabric like this out there but it is so expensive and in the US and so I thought maybe I’d check out the local guy to see if he had it. He had basic colours only but told me he had this other fabric that was more synthetic (so a 20-30% wool & 70-80% polyester) he said it’s is more user friendly so to say being able to wash easily, I liked 3 of the prints. The fabric is 60” wide so I was like okay I’ll take 60” in length (1.5 metres) because that’s 5’ squared big enough to cuddle under on the couch or for my son to use as a blanket. I made all 3 and with the weather being kinda crappy threw August & September I wore them to work, because the shop was cold even when it was kinda warm shop still stayed cold so they kept me warm enough to keep the doors open. Then some ladies started to see them and asked if I would make them one. Later on my sister saw them and said I should do a photo shoot and start a business because they were really pretty. So I did.
These blanket scarves aren’t original there are a ton of people out there making them in all shapes and sizes. I have 4 standard sizes I try to keep in stock. 30”x30” bandana, 40”x40” scarf, a 60”x60” blanket and a 60” x 80” XL beach blanket. I will also do custom orders. I have pillows of all shapes and sizes.
West Coast Alchemist is not just these products though I’d like to make some timeless clothing pieces too. I also bead Malas, Rosaries, diffusing bracelets, and other silver diffusing necklaces. I have interests in cosmetic products with essential oils and all natural products. Soy candles with essential oils as well. 2020 is going to be a year of development and hopefully growth.
Well 2020 didn’t go the way we all thought it was but I did pivot my company a bit and started to get back to my roots and launched my hand-dyed garments & home decor. Thank you by the way for making them a huge success. All of my clothing pieces has a hidden inspirational message on them to help us remember we’re not alone and that we matter, because let’s face 2020 was a lonely year for us all. I have chosen to support another maker as well when productions these garments so all my printing is done by West Coast Wild Child. Check out her website if you haven’t already.
In 2021 I have started to pull away from chemical dyes and move more into the natural dyes for my hand-dyed pieces and that is where the company dyed items are going to be focused more on. I want to be more responsible for my environmental footprint.
But honestly I love your support of my brand, but please don’t feel obligated to buy from me. I am more about people buying product to support a maker! Buy mine or someone else’s who is doing the exact same thing that is your choice, I could never make enough of any of these products to sell to the masses. I do this out of love, the love of creating something for someone and having that connection to that person. So please support local artisans, each of us works hard to make our products for you.❤️
Thank you for taking the time to read this,
