Note from shop owner The shop has been placed on "vacation mode" for a couple weeks, but I haven't gone anywhere. If you have an order placed already I am working on it and am still moving on schedule, so don't worry. I just needed to slow things down so I can take care of a few things. I plan on opening back up beginning of June. You can contact me by emailing whipstitchwallets [!at] gmail.com. You can also find me on instagram under whipstitchwallets. Thanks!

This is the second wallet I've purchased from Whipstitch Wallets, and it did not disappoint. The last wallet is still holding up (and worn in beautifully), but my boyfriend liked and wanted to try the new minimalist design. We both love it so much, I'm planning to get one for myself. It appears sturdy and well-made, plus it's personalized and unique. Well worth the money! Thanks Joe. :)

What a great purchase, had a design in mind and it was developed perfectly. Great quality, and a great price! Joe was great to work with!

About

What's in a wallet?

I probably like wallets a little too much, if that's possible. Everytime I see someone take a wallet out of their pocket, I get as good a glimpse as I can. I love seeing older guys with wallets that look like they're about forty years old, purchased back when quality handmade gear wasn't the exception to the rule. The leather develops a patina and molds to the carrier's lifestyle, beginning to visually reflect the person themselves. My personal wallet has been spilled on, bled on, and dropped in the mud; through all of that, I have developed the sort of bond with it that I wish for all my customers.

With proper care, these leather wallets will last more than a lifetime. To me, it's vital that my products hold up for decades because that's what it takes for each customer to form the kind of bond with their wallet that makes it unique and irreplaceable. I create each piece with the dream of it being passed on to a second or even third generation. To help accomplish this, brush occasionally with a horsehair brush, apply some conditioner if it becomes dry to the touch, or even get in touch with me for a full-on refurbish.

My products are designed to be a representation of the carrier, not a designer or brand. I offer my customers a variety of options and do everything I can to accomodate them so that they get exactly what they want. Every individual is so unique; I think their wallet should be too. I have done lucky numbers, poems, inside jokes, anniversary dates, mismatched colors, extra pockets...you name it. I'm always looking for new ideas and experimenting!

Process:
1. I drive about an hour and a half to hand select my vegetable tanned hides at tannery Wickett & Craig in PA. You won't see many sellers saying that!
2. Rough cut all the pieces, dip-dye each piece, and let them set for 24 hours.
3. Clean and remove excess dye with saddle soap. Let it dry
4. Feed with conditioner and lightly burnish "rough" side to remove more excess dye. Let it dry.
5. Lightly burnish again with wax to further protect against dye.
6. Cut out pieces, make stitching holes, bevel and burnish non-seamed edges.
7. Dye burnished edges with Q-tip
8. Two handed saddle stitch
9. Bevel, sand, burnish, and dye seamed edges (then burnish again with wax).
10. Light coat of shoe polish and buff to a soft warm glow with a horse hair brush.

I'm happy to say that I am finally able to offer my wallets in Horween Chromexcel leather as a deluxe option in limited quantities! I highly suggest checking out this article if you're unsure if this leather is worth the extra money: http://horween.com/101/chromexcel-2/

Please contact me via Etsy messaging or the "custom order" button to discuss details of adding customizations such as using multiple colors, small design changes, adding short message, or even designing a wallet just for you from scratch!

Care instructions

For vegetable tanned leather products I recommend keeping it clean of dirt and debris with a horsehair brush, cleaning with saddle soap or pH-balanced cleaner if soiled, treat with conditioner if dry to the touch, and shine with neutral shoe polish if desired.

For Horween CXL leather I recommend keeping it clean of dirt and debris with a horse hair brush, and conditioning with venetian shoe cream if needed.
