About

The Right and Left Side of the Beek Hat

Even after sewing more than 1,500 hats, I still love it. My children have outgrown them, but the work has become meditative for me. I know my pattern like the back of my hand. My fingers draw from body memory when I pick up the pattern pieces. They move confidently, knowing just how to hold, pull, and gather the fabric to make the pieces match up perfectly as I sew them.

When I'm working in my studio, I balance the precision of piecing hats together with the flexibility I find in free motion embroidery and the creative process of designing new hats. Free motion embroidery is the unique method I use to personalize and attach raw edged applique to my hats. With this style of sewing, imperfection gives each design character. It's whimsical, fun and a little messy.

I like to think of each hat as a little piece of wearable art that is precisely designed and put together in all of the right places.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by.

I've been making hats for eight years. Thinking about sewing and designing hats still takes up a lot of space in my head. I just love it. You can read a little about my hat sewing and a lot about my Portland family at www.beek.typepad.com

CUSTOM STOCKING ORDERS

If you are hoping for a NEW DESIGN applique that is not offered on my website, such as "a dolphin in a jeep," or "mistletoe and snowflakes on a pink background," I take this type of custom order until NOVEMBER 5TH.

However, if you simply want to replace one color of thread or fabric for another on a CURRENT DESIGN in my shop, I can usually accommodate your request at any time. Just write your custom request in the note to seller at checkout.

If you need further clarification regarding custom stocking requests, just convo me.

Thank you!

HAT SAFETY

For the love of safety, babies and toddlers should always be supervised while wearing a beek hat. Many of my hats have hand embroidered detailing with accessible threads and buttons. Please do not allow your child to put any part of the hat in his/her mouth. Thanks!
