This was the third playsilk I've bought from DesertDyeworks, and I love it. Thank you!

I've ordered these several times and give them out as birthday presents. They get years worth of play out of them. These scarves are far nicer than you would buy in a store.

Color, meet Fabric!

I began dyeing in 2002, after seeing some playsilks that the local Waldorf school was selling at a bi-annual street fair here in Tucson. My daughter was just over a year old and I wanted to make some silks for her. I bought some dye and silk and jumped right in.

Though the solid color silks were wonderful, I wanted to expand my knowledge of dyeing and the different techniques. In my research, I came across a community of dyers and tie-dyers who were very open in the sharing and exchange of ideas. With this wealth of information at my fingertips my interest in dyeing went into overdrive.

I learned some basic folds as well as some more intricate ones. The fold I was most drawn to was the mandala fold. Since that moment, I have been experimenting with the fold and different color combinations to give each silk its unique and vibrant qualities.

I use a variety of silk and sizes to create my playsilks and scarves. However, most of what I use is a selection of the 8mm Habotai scarves, including the 21inch, 35inch, and 45inch scarves. I also use cotton and other natural fiber fabrics as a palette for a rainbow of colors and designs.

I love what I do. Though sometimes I feel like a tie-dye geek, obsessed with color and the results of my efforts. My advice to anyone wanting to dabble in dyeing and tie-dyeing; do it, it’s fun and actually pretty easy. My one warning; it’s addictive!

How do we get accurate measurements? Glad you asked.
-Chest width is measured in the front from armpit to armpit 1" up from the side seam.
-Length is measured in the center back from the top of the collar to the bottom hem.

When possible we use sizing information from the manufacturer in addition to the above measurements.

To get an idea if the shirt size is write for you grab a tape measure and take quick measurements of your other favorite t-shirt. Bust measurement is done by measuring around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.

Please do not hesitate to contact Desert Dyeworks if you have any questions.

Desert Dyeworks primary shipping method is USPS First-class. However, I will get you the quickest shipping possible for the price. This means if USPS Priority is a better buy, especially for multiple purchases, that's what I will ship. All domestic shipments will receive Delivery Confirmation.

I ship Mon-Fri except holidays or if we are on a big fancy vacation. But that rarely happens, so no worries there! Items will be shipped 3-5 days from date of payment received. This being said I do my best to get things shipped out ASAP. If timing is an issue, drop me a note and I will do my best to meet your needs.

I only ship to verified addresses. So, if you are paying via PayPal please make sure your Etsy and PayPal address are the same. This is for your protection as well as mine.

International shipping is pretty similar to US shipping. The preferred method is USPS International First-class. But USPS Global Priority will be used at my discretion. Please remember that we are not responsible for customs, taxes, or duties in the destination country.
