IDC Masculine is Where Ian Drummond Collection's Work Goes Out to Play

There wouldn't be an IDC anything without Ian - it all starts with him.

Ian has been a passionate collector of vintage clothing since the early 1980s, at first just shopping for himself in Toronto’s Kensington Market, and then everywhere to stock his first vintage clothing store, 20th Century Frox.

Along with building the Ian Drummond Collection, he has also worked in the Toronto film industry. A member of IATSE 873 since 1997, he’s worked as an assistant costume designer on HAIRSPRAY, and on CINDERELLA MAN as the extras coordinator – he was responsible for the costuming of 3000+ background performers in each film. As well, Ian was the wardrobe buyer on CHICAGO, an Oscar winner for costume design. To this day he's enjoying every chance he gets to help Oscar winners make their magic - most recently sending hundreds of pieces of 20s and 30s menswear to London for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Through all of these productions he has gained invaluable knowledge about what works in the realm of vintage clothing for film and television, and keeps all this in mind as he shops for the collection.

When asked why he got into the rental business his answer is simple.
“It satisfies two urges: to shop AND to keep!”

But even with a 10,000 square foot studio, he can't keep everything. Some items don't work for film. They might buzz for the camera, or be a colour only a lead can wear, or be too specific to work in background, which is the studio's bread and butter.

The top-to-toe costuming for cast and background performers means that Ian has to buy entire estates sometimes to get the few things that will work for the rental collection. So, while the entire rental house Ian and his small staff maintains is designed to offer costume designers and stylists a wearable and screen-ready collection in a comfortable, clean, organized and climate-controlled environment - it is also the perfect set-up for an online store like IDC Masculine (and IDC Vintage for feminine clothing; and Ian Drummond Stash for household textiles.)

The Ian Drummond Collection’s movie and TV wardrobe rental studio is open to Industry Professionals from 9-5 Monday through Friday, or by appointment, and we sell to the public at special events, and to the trade by appointment in Toronto -- but thanks to Etsy, we can sell to everyone around the world 24-7.

Follow us on Facebook or Instagram @iandrummondcollection for more sneak peaks at what will soon be in the stores, or for what we're working on for the big and small screens.

Thank you for coming to our IDC Masculine Etsy Shop.

A note from Ian:

My primary business, Ian Drummond Collection, is a vintage wardrobe rental studio for film and television professionals established in 1996. Because I need to buy entire estates to acquire wearable clothing from the 1890s-1990s, I often end up with fashion-related items: fabric, clothing patterns, buttons, trims, lace, linens, fashion periodicals, distressed vintage and home decor. I have over 30 years experience in buying and selling vintage personally, and even with 10,000 square feet, I can't keep everything!

My original ETSY shop Ian Drummond Vintage is devoted to beautiful, wearable vintage clothing, jewellery and accessories from the Victorian era to the 1990s, focusing on the feminine.

There is Ian Drummond Stash for fabric, handiwork and household items. These items are fantastic - they just don't work for my rental collection.

I hope you enjoy browsing. My assistants and I are happy to converse about anything you may have questions about, or to let you know if we may have something you'd like that just hasn't made it to the shop yet. Be sure to make the shop a favorite - IDC's mission for 2018 is to make room for new buying opportunities by clearing out the ones we've already been lucky to have had in the past.

For industry professionals interested in renting vintage clothing for your project please visit our website at, where you can view a sampling of what we have to offer, with more specific information here:

Our studio is climate-controlled, smoke- and pet- and pest-free!

Returns and exchange details
Our listings are carefully described and measure with detailed condition evaluations so that you can shop with confidence.

We will happily respond to convos asking for clarification, measurements or images upon request, as we often take extra images for our own accuracy and accountability, beyond what we can use on Etsy.

We do not manufacture any of these items - they are all pre-owned, and in many cases, pre-loved.

Please keep in mind that vintage clothing and items may have been worn or used before, and items often retain the impression of their former users. Even New Old Stock may have flaws from its manufacture or previous storage. Due to the nature of these items there may be minor imperfections. We do our best to note the flaws but we may miss trivial ones - we take great care to represent everything carefully. Our photography studio lighting is clear and bright, and we do our best to make sure the colours appear accurate.

No refunds are issued based on problems with the fit of a garment. We do not pin items on our forms - all are presented as they hang. Please measure yourself or a like item of clothing to ensure a suitable fit. Minor alterations might be necessary for the best fit to your figure, as with any item of clothing. If you need more information please convo - we are industry professionals and understand working with clients at a distance.

All items described in "AS IS" condition are a final sale - we often sell very distressed items for craft purposes; for study, patterns or prototypes; for "character" costuming or to just get them into the hands of a collector if they seem to have a specific interest or provenance. We make every effort to represent this accurately.

Please convo within 48 hours receipt of an item if you intend to request a refund. We will do your best to begin as amenable a process as possible. We will abide by any and all Etsy guidelines for smooth transactions, and follow all rules and regulations.

Your item must be sent back unworn or unused and in the condition it was sent in (we have reference photos for comparison should any discrepancy or damage from shipping arise.)

We will refund the cost of an item upon our receipt of it, but not the shipping or return shipping.

The return shipment is at the buyers expense and must be made via a method of shipping that includes a tracking number and signature upon receipt. This is a Paypal requirement.

EU customers, please notify us within 14 days of receiving your purchase if you intend to request a refund as per your Right to Return Directive. We will provide you with any necessary forms and our preferred return address.
We accept all forms of payment, including PayPal, via Etsy Checkout. If you are buying for a production company, please contact us to make arrangements: iandrummondcollection [!at]

Payment must be made in full before the item is shipped. If a payment isn't made within 48 hours, and we have had no conversation, the sale will be cancelled and the item returned to stock.

If you have further questions or need any information about options, we're flexible and motivated sellers - please contact us.

We do not offer payment plans, but will reserve items for a short time (usually 48 hours) while items are being considered, questions answered and shipping or other terms negotiated. Please convo us to arrange this.
Items are neatly folded, packed in fresh tissue and sent in either water resistant, tear-proof polyethylene envelopes; padded manila envelopes; or bagged and then placed in shipping boxes and wrapped in mylar or postal wrap paper. We take care to protect the items while shipping, and don't charge for anything other than postal costs.

Please keep in mind that Canada is not the USA and that Canada Post has its peculiarities. All purchases are shipped through either Canada Post or USPS via ChitChats Express. If you have a FEDEX account, we would be glad to use that if you prefer.

We provide tracking with USPS shipping whenever possible, and only upon your choosing an upgrade if Canada Post.

We use Chit Chat Express' Rate Card or Canada Post's/USPS' "Find a Rate" calculator to set our shipping profiles. Shipping upgrades are offered wherever possible. We will happily quote shipping more exactly and make adjustments with your address provided. We will combine orders upon request. You can either use the options set in our shipping profiles, or convo.

Differences in shipping of more than $2 are automatically refunded - you don't have to ask.

Items or combined purchases over $100 are required to have tracked shipping.

If the Etsy and PayPal addresses are different, we will ship to the address provided to Etsy.

Depending on location, delivery time for letters and parcels can be from 6-8 business days, but weeks longer isn't unheard of when crossing the country. We do our best to package so as to minimize shipping costs - but over 2 kilograms are necessarily more expensive. Xpress Post (2 business days) and Priority (1 business day) are available for Canada Post's extortionate increases.

We upgrade to the most expedient tracked option whenever possible at no extra charge.

Please note that especially around holidays and due to customs or border issues, shipping times of 10-12 weeks are not uncommon, and even some of the "faster" options are delayed beyond the estimated business days posted. Because each item is unique, we can't replace items, and request that they are given a little more time to travel.

We will refund after 10 weeks - this based on experience, is the outside time at which items have arrived.

If an item turns up after we've refunded, we trust that our honest and understanding customers will contact us and offer to make payment. Though shipping times have been heinous sometimes, nothing has ever been lost and nobody has ever disappointed us!

It helps us to fill out the customs forms if you'll provide us with your telephone number - otherwise we substitute our studio line.

You are responsible for all VAT, import fees, duties and taxes imposed by your country. We can not falsify customs forms. These charges are your responsibility, we have no control over this -- please do not confuse them with additional shipping charges.
Additional policies and FAQs
All items are stored carefully in our studio, which is a clean, smoke-free, pet-free environment where we protect everything from dust and light damage as well.

If you are shopping for a production project please contact us for for details regarding our memo policy - we can provide items "on spec" and can offer bulk prices on multiples.

We do our best to measure items in both inches and centimetres and to show scale - but older stock items may not yet have been converted. There are online calculators available, or please convo to confirm or ask questions.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

All of our items have been previously owned, or created as costumes for film and television productions. We do not manufacture, alter or change anything we sell. We cannot customize or personalize anything.

Sizing details

We do our best to measure items in both inches and centimetres and to show scale - but older stock items may not yet have been converted. There are online calculators available, or please convo to confirm or ask questions.

Gift wrapping and packaging

We are happy to forward items as gifts, and can happily write a gift tag on white cardstock.

We pack every item in fresh white tissue tied with ribbon, as we feel every purchase should be a pleasure to receive. It feels great to be a bright spot in someone's day!

We can avoid, or as we usually do, customize packing receipts so as not to include price, for the sake of discretion.

Please just indicate or convo it's a gift, and we'll do our best to impress.

Wholesale availability

All of our items are vintage, or unique, and there are no wholesale opportunities.

That said, if you are a film or television production, please contact us if you would like to consider a larger purchase or to find out what we might have available through our full-service movie wardrobe rental studio.

Do you also buy vintage clothing?

We sure do! Ian will often take our Etsy sales funds and turn them into purchases for or movie wardrobe rental stock! We're not just Etsy sellers, but Etsy shoppers too. Please see our website: to find out about our main business. You can also catch glimpses of what we do @iandrummondcollection on Instagram, or find us on Facebook.

He'll consider large collections or individual items, based on the productions we are currently working with. And if you're a vendor who specializes in high glamour gorgeousness, well, Ian is the person who'll want the stained and worn "character" clothing from that Estate you just found.

It's not all about things being perfect here - it's about things working for us on the screen.

Care instructions

We are happy to give our best information about caring for vintage items, but always recommend that owners should do their own research for best practices. As experienced costume industry professionals, we handle a good deal of vintage clothing and accessories and are happy to share our years of knowledge, but can't be responsible for anything that occurs once the items leave our hands.

We retain any hard copies of the shipping information only as long as guaranteed to ensure your order has been received, then they are shredded.

Information submitted to online forms such as Etsy, PayPal, and our use of and ChitChats Express (manifest) is provided to them for the sole purpose of shipping items, and is otherwise subject to their rules and regulations.
