About
Yarn, Yarn, and More Yarn
Tangled Threads is about perception. It is the beginning, middle, and continuation of my journey through the world of crochet and knitting. It is the artistic and deliberate tangling of yarn into beautiful, functional accessories for you and your home. From cozy boot cuffs and coordinating keyhole scarves to eco-friendly dryer balls and reusable grocery bags, each piece is lovingly handcrafted and methodically tangled for your enjoyment.
Crocheting and knitting are more than just hobbies for me. A tiny piece of my heart goes into each piece I make. I am the mother to a wonderfully thoughtful young man who dances competitively. During the school year, I am often running from work to pick him up at school, then straight to the dance studio where he dances for at least an hour, four days a week. I spend this time at the dance studio not only cheering him on and watching him do what he loves, but I bring my yarn and I work on my current project. This downtime is what I need to reset my brain and get ready to be a provider for him. It is just the two of us and every moment we have is precious. Joshua helps me in my shop when he can, whether it is picking out a yarn color at the local craft store, or helping me find vintage buttons at antique shops.
Jen’s Tangled Threads started shortly after I learned to crochet in 2007. I’ve always been the type of person who can’t just do one thing at a time. My brain is always going. To help relax, I would cross-stitch in the evenings while watching TV. However, cross-stitch was very restrictive for me. I do not have the ability to draw or differentiate between different shades of a color so I could make my own patterns. I turned to crochet because I could make one item, and the next time, I could change one thing about the pattern and it was completely different and new.
Crocheting and knitting didn’t come easy. I made a lot of mistakes along the way, and, being a perfectionist, if I made a mistake in the pattern, I had to frog (or tear out) entire sections of a project until I came to the mistake. This often led to impossibly tangled balls of yarn. After tearing out a pattern, before I could move forward, I forced myself to untangle that mess of yarn and wind it back into a ball I could use. Thus, Tangled Threads.
Today, Tangled Threads has many meanings for me today. It is the purposeful tangling of yarn to create beautiful pieces for my customers. It is the patience I learn when I am untangling a ball of yarn after finding a mistake. It is the hours I spent working with the yarn to create some of my own patterns. Finally, it is the people I have met on my journey through craft shows and my customers.
I look forward to working with you to create a beautiful product you will love. I love playing with new yarn to and trying new patterns. If you are looking for a something not listed in my shop, please contact me at jenstangledthreads [at] gmail.com

I taught myself to crochet and knit using books and YouTube. I recently started designing my own patterns and I have a notebook full of ideas. My favorite tools in addition to yarn and my hooks are a glass of wine and a good tv show.

This is my 14 year old son. He is a gifted dancer and helps me pick out yarn colors. Recently he has been promoted to button selector - he helps pick out which buttons to use on certain products.

Huggy Bear
Cat And Bedtime Reminder, Package Inspector
Huggy is one of my two cats. When it is time for bed, he will jump up into the recliner and stare at me until I shut everything down. Lately he has been following me into my office to inspect packages before they are sent.

Starsky
Cat, Guardian Of The Yarn
Starsky is my other cat. He is aloof and rarely crawls into my lap while I am crocheting. His primary duty is to keep Huggy busy and happy and off my crocheting blanket, keeping it fur free. Neither cat plays with the yarn.
