My Shaman Bird Drum exceeded my expectations. I had commissioned Kristen to create a drum for a specific purpose, a novel I am writing where the drum plays an important role. Kristen emailed the details of a drum she had available to paint-- a blacktail deer skin with a deer horn button at the back. Perfect. Kristen explained that what the drum revealed to her to paint might not match what I had in mind, and if the drum wasn't mine, I could turn it down. I began meditating on the drum during the days Kristen was working on it. I woke up one night and knew if the painting involved a blue line, it was meant for me (as odd as it sounds, Blue Line is one of my spirit guides). When Kristen sent me the picture of the Shaman Bird, I saw the outline of the shaman bird-- in blue. The drum and I are a good fit. Thank you, Kristen!

This wave-smoothed drumstick really does smell faintly of saltwater like another review mentioned. It has a wonderful craftsmanship. I include a photo here with my drum from an indigenous maker in another province. The drumstick is perfectly sized and felted to give my drum a new deeper resonant sound.
