Hola, soy Karla, profesora, madre de tres hijos y la creadora de Athena Designs. Esta tienda empezó con aguja e hilo, no con una impresora 3D. Me criaron mujeres que integraban la belleza en la vida cotidiana a través de la costura, y durante años confeccioné y vendí ropa hecha a mano aquí mismo en Etsy.
Hoy en día todavía se pueden encontrar algunas telas vintage de la colección de mi tía Linda, en su honor, pero mi principal interés ha cambiado: diseño e imprimo en 3D piezas personalizadas en la granja familiar, y tengo predilección por el ajedrez, la historia y las cosas que cuentan una buena historia.
El nombre "Athena Designs" proviene de la diosa de la sabiduría, el coraje y la artesanía, lo cual me pareció acertado tanto al cortar tela como al trabajar con archivos STL. "K to the Five" es un guiño a mi familia de cinco hermanos, amantes de la ciencia: Karla, Keith, Kevin, Kristopher y Konnor.

Hi, I'm Karla — teacher, mom of three boys, and the person behind Athena Designs. This shop actually started with a needle and thread, not a 3D printer. I was raised by women who stitched beauty into everyday life, and for years I made and sold handmade clothing right here on Etsy.
These days you'll still catch the occasional vintage fabric from my Aunt Linda's collection, in her honor, but my main focus has shifted: I design and 3D print custom pieces on our family farm, with a soft spot for chess, history, and things that tell a good story.
The name "Athena Designs" comes from the goddess of wisdom, courage, and craft — which felt right whether I was cutting fabric or slicing STL files. "K to the Five" is a nod to my science-loving family of five Ks: Karla, Keith, Kevin, Kristopher, and Konnor.
