About Laughing Devil Designs

We are committed to providing high-quality, handcrafted products that are eco-friendly and vegan, cruelty-free and will make you and your home happy.

We are often asked how the company name came about. The name Laughing Devil is derived from our names Shielaugh Divelbiss (yes, we have the same name). Laughing comes from the last part of our first names and Devil comes from the meaning of our last name, which is Devil’s Bite. It was in Shielaugh V’s ad design class in college where this name was created by her friends, during a branding project. She has used Laughing Devil ever since.

Founded in 2011, Laughing Devil Designs, is a maker of face, body and home products that are developed and produced in small batches in the San Francisco Bay Area. A socially conscious brand, Laughing Devil Designs use eco-friendly, and fair trade ingredients in all its products.

Notice anything unusual about our ingredient list? That's right, not one hard to pronounce chemical ingredient. We believe that mother nature knows best and that many effective solutions come from nature. Adding chemicals to the mix in skincare is unnecessary, and can leave skin irritated.

We choose oils and extracts that are loaded with protein and skin nourishing vitamins like A, B1, B2, D, C, E and Beta Carotene. They are lightweight and easily absorbed into the skin, without leaving behind a greasy feeling but instead leave you with soft skin.

6-8 week minimum
The average curing time for most cold process soap companies is 4 weeks. We wait an additional 2-4 weeks to give you a harder, longer lasting bar of soap that won't melt away after a few uses. Our soaps are made to perform beautifully and last a long time. This soap is gentle yet effective enough to use as your everyday soap, it makes lots of big bubbles right down to the last sliver, and leaves your skin feeling refreshed and smelling great

To extend the life of the soap to it’s max, please set on a well-drained soap dish or wire rack to dry out in between uses.

Handmade in Richmond, California from natural and organic ingredients using traditional cold process methods. Our products are completely free of synthetic detergents, artificial colors, fragrances, parabens, sulfates and petroleum products. We are certified vegan by PeTa.

Our products are never tested on animals, nor do we knowingly support any company who engages in such behavior. We firmly believe that animals should never be harmed in the pursuit of better skin and body care products. We test our products on our human friends who all willingly volunteer.

We do not support the palm oil industry, as it often leads to deforestation and the loss of beautiful creatures like the orangutan, elephant, and tiger.

We created Laughing Devil Designs to help people have great skin without all the chemicals and preservatives (ie: sulfates, phthalates, parabens) found in so many products today. That is not the end of the story though, our goal is bigger. We want to make products that contribute to the economic health of the community by supporting local family farmers, and small American manufacturers. Every time someone supports us, they are also supporting a bunch of other small business that are in our supply “food” chain.

Tea Towels are illustrated by owner Shielaugh Divelbiss, then printed in the USA on USA grown organic cotton linen and hand finished by Shielaugh.

Unsponges are all patterned, hand cut and sewn by Shielaugh. Fabric is sourced in the USA, but only some are 100% organic, which will be mentioned in the description.

We try to avoid too much packaging so we don’t add to the current waste problem. Our soaps wrapped with a printed label that is chlorine-free, tree-free mango paper (you can compost it if you like). We use tree-free, chlorine-free papers for our most of our labeling; such as mango, banana, and sugar cane papers. We hand glue each label with acid-free and vegan PVA (PVA is completely water degradable). Jars that need to have water proof labels are printed on acrylic with soy based ink, and sourced from a company that is also committed to reducing waste. Our plastic jars are all BPA free and made from 80% post consumer plastic

I choose this manufacturer to print fabric for my tea towels, because they use an ink jet process, which is Eco-friendly, and wastes little electricity & material and does pollute water like some traditional dying methods.

Care instructions

Cotton Unsponges and Tea Towels: Wash on warm, and dry on the cotton setting. Some shrinking may occur depending on your the temperature of your washer and dryer.

Soap: Allow to dry out between using, by placing on a draining soap dish. Soap that is allowed to sit in water will not last as long.

Lotion and Slaves: Please store at room temperature, if left in a hot car it may liquidify (in that case pop it in the fridge to solidify).

Gift wrapping and packaging

Gift Wrapping: From October to December we offer free gift wrapping for orders over $25 (upon request). These can be shipped directly to the recipient, without an invoice or packaging slip included in the packaging. Please message directly, BEFORE ordering, with any questions.

Packaging: We use packing peanuts, made from starch, that dissolve in hot water; recycled newsprint; and unbleached tissue paper. We encourage our customers to reuse the shipping materials or to recycle them.

Holiday Shipping

International Orders: Orders placed after December 1st may not make it in time for Christmas. Customs delays are not uncommon so I cannot promise a delivery date, but the sooner you order the more likely your order will arrive on time.

USA Orders: Orders need to be placed by December 13th in order to arrive by Christmas.

GERMAN & AUSTRALIAN Customers: Please note that, due to increased security, packages to these two countries have been taking longer to arrive, especially if they contain perfumes. Average has been 6-8 business weeks after the ship date.

Your purchase will be shipped to your Etsy address. If you require shipping to another address, as in the case of a gift, please let me know.
