About

Dedicated to making and promoting organic and sustainable materials for Montessori environments everywhere.

"The child should love everything that he learns, for his mental and emotional growths are linked. Whatever is presented to him must be made beautiful and clear, striking his imagination." -Maria Montessori

Hello! I am Montessori educator and parent with over 30 years of experience (and I'm still learning!) I have my AMS certification as a Montessori Primary 3-6 teacher. I'm also MACAR Certified (Montessori Applied to Children At Risk for Learning Disabilities). I have been a Montessori Intern, Assistant, Head Teacher, Director, and Head of School. These days I'm not in my classroom surrounded by your beautiful children due to a disabling neurological disease. When I'm able, I spend my time creating handmade items that I'd wished had been available to me as a teacher. Organic, earth-conscious, safe, peaceful things..... I make one for me should I be able to return to my classroom.....and a few to offer to others on Etsy.

I have a deep reverence for children, and thus feel an enormous responsibility for how I treat the environment they share with me and will inherit. My shop searches for fabrics created using 100% GOTS and OEKO-TEX certified, organic cotton, wool, and hemp based cloths and threads. Eco-responsible low impact dyes are used for colors and prints on fabrics. I look for sustainable natural bamboo, wood, and coconut products (even the buttons!) I'm also a big fan of vintage and up-cycled items. I use only environmentally-friendly acid-free paper and recycled ink cartridges for my printed materials. I'm looking forward to using soy inks when they become available to consumers. I use eco-friendly and recycled mailing materials whenever possible.

As an humanitarian, I am concerned with the social accountability of merchants. My Peaceful Classroom is committed to seeking out Fair Trade Certified, STeP Certified textile and paper manufacturers dedicated to business practices that respect humanity.

As a child advocate, I believe I must be centered on the welfare of the child who trusts me to provide materials that are safe and sustainably produced. This is my inspiration, not only for each child, but for every child's future.
