Swapping an IT career for designing at the kitchen table.
The arrival of my first son brought many changes to my life, including the end to an IT career and a great desire to make things. I originally planned to create relief prints for wall art and fabric. However, I soon realized after printing a few items that it was totally impractical having wet, inky paper and fabric drying around the house with a toddler and curious cat meandering about.
I was then given a graphics tablet for a gift and the whole world of digital design and illustration opened up for me. Initially I mainly created digital fabric designs (see my Spoonflower shop www.spoonflower.com/profiles/pininkie). I noticed many of these fabric designs also worked as scrapbooking papers.
Due to lack of space for stock in our little terraced house, I am currently concentrating on digital designs that can be instantly downloaded by customers. This has also allowed me to branch out into new products, such as collage sheets, clip art, home school and toy printables.
I have so many ideas bursting out of my head, I could really do with a clone to help me produce them all! My time is limited as I am pretty hectic with my sons during the day, so all my creative energy is saved for nap times and after 7pm when they are tucked up in bed.
I love running my Etsy store and the wonderful community I have become a part of. My dream is that my store will go from strength to strength for many years to come.
