Frequently asked questions
Care instructions

Let your soap dry out between uses by placing it in a well drained soap dish. Avoid leaving it in a place in the shower where water will pool or spray. For hand soap by the sink, I like cutting the bar in half and using one half at a time.

What's the difference between store bought soap and handmade?

Have you noticed a box of your favorite store bought soap doesn't include the word soap? Legally, they can not call it soap because they remove the naturally occurring glycerin. Companies have to use such names as beauty bar. It is considered a detergent and has many chemicals added. The company sells the glycerin or adds it to other products like lotion.

In homemade soaps, the natural occurring glycerin is left in and oils and butters with skin loving properties are used.

How long will a bar of soap last?

It will last 3-4 weeks, based on normal use and letting it dry out between uses.

What is the white powder on top of some of your soaps?

It is called soda ash. It is harmless and forms when air touches a batch of soap in the first 24 hours. You will most likely see it with soaps made with essential oils such as peppermint,
lavender or anise.

Can you make soap without lye?

No, soap cannot be made without lye. There is no way around it. To make soap, you need a chemical reaction known as saponification between lye, water and fats. In 24 hrs, the lye has completely disappeared.

Melt and pour bases are made with lye too. Since it is a ready made product to use, the work to make the soap is done for you.

Do you use lead wicks?

No, I do not. Anyone mentioning their candles are lead free are using this as fear tactic marketing and/or have not educated themselves properly.

This is from the National Candle Association website.

Lead wicks were banned from the U.S marketplace in 2003, and for several years before that were found primarily in inexpensive foreign candle imports. NCA-member manufacturers voluntarily discontinued using lead wicks in the mid-1970s, and in 2000, asked all U.S. candle manufacturers to join its members in signing a formal pledge not to use lead wicks.

What is all the sodium mean on your label?

It is Health Canada's labelling requirements for homemade soap. It means oils and butters have reacted with Sodium Hydroxide - aka lye and has turned to soap. A few examples are, after olive oil or Shea Butter has gone through the chemical reaction, it is called Sodium Olivate and Sodium Shea Butterate.

Shipping

Buying multiple items at once saves you money rather than placing a second order and paying $14.55+ again.

I ship the most economical way using Canada Post. On average, delivery times are up to 9 business days in Canada and 5-8 business days for shipping to the US. Please note, these delivery times are only estimates. Shipping during Holiday peak times may take longer due to high volumes. There may be unforeseen customs delays. Shipping and customs delays are beyond my control.

I may reuse boxes and packing materials to help the enviroment and save costs. I use packing peanuts that dissolve in water. Please recycle or reuse packing materials.

Shipping Address

It is the customer's responsibility to provide the correct shipping address. In the case of returned packages due to incorrect or incomplete shipping address, the shipping costs are not refundable. I will only issue a refund for item(s) ordered when I have received the returned parcel at no expense to me.

If I notice what looks like an incomplete address, I will not ship your order. I will first make an attempt to contact the buyer. If the buyer has not responded back within 3 business days, the order will be canceled and I will issue a refund.
