About sleeplessstoryteller

Sales 788
On Etsy since 2008

Everybody’s got a story ... especially writers

Sleepless Storyteller began as a hobby off the side of a busy writer's desk. I love my work as a copywriter and novelist, but I’ve always enjoyed crafting, painting, and photography.

Right around the time I made the switch from student to office worker, I got tired of being too petite for most rings, bracelets and chokers. I started learning to make my own strung bead jewelry. Later I moved on to wire-wrapping, sawing, polishing, and shaping using files and small power tools. Originally, each piece I made used cold connections exclusively.

After opening my Etsy shop in December 2008, I worked with recycled watches, computer parts, electronic components, and vintage toys. Now, I create electroformed and soldered pieces in mostly copper, with some brass and silver.

In past years I've consigned through alternative boutiques in Victoria, Vancouver, and Florida. I've also been to many markets and festivals which are exciting opportunities to meet customers in person.

These days, I stay focused on selling through Etsy, so you won't find my work in boutiques at the moment. But I am always looking for markets in my Langley, BC area that allow me to get out there and meet wearable art lovers.

Frequently asked questions
Care instructions

My work is finished with either a microcrystalline jeweler’s wax or a hypoallergenic top coat. These finishes finish will wear off over time and metals may darken, particularly when exposed to moisture like sweat or skin oil. A polishing cloth will usually bring back the original shine.

Sleepless Storyteller metals should not be exposed to chemicals or remain submerged in water. Remove your jewelry before washing dishes, bathing or showering, sleeping, swimming, or playing sports.

A quick note on skin discoloration; this can happen while wearing copper and brass, particularly rings. While I always take the precautions listed above to protect both metal and skin, please be aware that it is possible and outside my control.

Custom and personalized orders

I welcome the opportunity to collaborate with my customers to create a truly unique piece of jewelry. In some cases a custom order requires a non-refundable 50% deposit before work begins.

If your requested design requires the purchase of stones or metals not already in my inventory, the deposit is needed to cover these costs.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Each Sleepless Storyteller order includes a basic cardboard jewelry box, for both protection and presentation.

If your order is a gift and you require a special gift box or wrapping paper, I would be happy to help. But as this is not a standard service I provide, I need a little notice to ensure I can accommodate your request.

Please contact me before purchasing to make arrangements if you prefer any extra packaging.

Wholesale availability

If you own or represent a boutique interested in carrying a selection of Sleepless Storyteller designs, I would be delighted to hear from you.

I have consigned with local BC shops in the past and I am always interested in opportunities to offer my work in a storefront setting.

Ear hygiene commitment

If you've read my return exceptions, I'd like to elaborate on the point about intimate items. The item categories I don't accept returns on (apart from custom pieces) are Earrings and Ear Weights.

Many of my earrings are designed to be worn in or with modified piercings. As a modified person myself, I know the high hygiene standards expected in the body jewelry industry. So to guarantee that the earrings I sell have never been worn, I don't accept returns because I can't resell them.

In addition to this section and the return policy above, I include language about this ear hygiene commitment in every earring and ear weight listing.

Please don't hesitate to contact me with any and all questions.

Combined shipping

In the event of multiple orders placed within a 1-2 day window, to the same name and address, items will automatically be combined into one package for efficiency, unless otherwise requested. One less padded mailer means a smaller carbon footprint for your order. :)

If you place more than one order back-to-back with the same name and account, to the same mailing address and require the shipments to remain separate, please contact me and I would be happy to accommodate you.

Can I use your charms or pendants as components in my own designs?

My work is intended to stand on its own as a finished product. None of the pieces I create are meant for resale in other artist’s designs. To that end, I include my maker’s mark wherever possible. I’m pretty open to discussing techniques with other artists, so please reach out if you’d like to know how to make something similar.

If, however, you feel really moved to reuse something I’ve made in a new piece of jewelry for sale in your own shop, please credit Sleepless Storyteller as the creator of the charm or pendant in your piece. Ideally, I’d love to know about it as well, either through an Etsy message or a social media tag.
