Convo me with your wool question and concerns!

Announcement    Lambs are born in May/June so its a busy time! The shearing is done and the wool shed is full again! I’ll try to list some of these beautiful fleeces. Often there will be very little or nothing listed in this Etsy store (just can’t find computer time to enter items)!

I know the difficulties of looking for a farm fleece. Hopefully I can help you with that!
Being a spinner, knitter, weaver, dyer and felter has helped me understand the importance of the unique characteristics and condition of each fleece. Listings will have very detailed and accurate info about my sheep and their fleeces. I look forward to helping you find what you need.

My farm animals and their care take priority, but I do reply to Etsy Convos. I will get back to you as soon as possible. If you prefer to contact me directly by email rather than etsy please send to: woolywoolofthewest at yahoo dot ca (not typed like this of course, but hoping to ward off unwanted spam or junk mail).

Thanks for visiting Wooly Wool of the West at NEWLAND RANCH on the hilly grasslands of southwest Saskatchewan, Canada.

See our Farms Story and Photos (click ABOUT at top of the store page above the sheep banner) 😊

So much more than luscious locks of wool! Farm life is a responsibility to the health and wellness of sheep, soil, water, plants and their caregivers.

When I semi-retired, I moved my office to the country to join my husband. During that time our century farm included grass fed beef and hay crops. I soon found the cattle far too large for me to handle so added a flock of Corriedale sheep, chickens and ducks. Life as we knew it changed forever (in a very good way).

After the first shearing, I kept the wool for knitting. There began a big learning curve to wash, card and spin. Then on to weaving, dyeing, wool judging and wool classing. I find time to enjoy processing and using my wool and recently have taken up wet felting.

Besides purebreds, I have a special interest in developing crossbreds with unique wool characteristics for knitting, tapestry yarns, weaving and felting.

Selling fleece helps the sustainability of our farm. But the true beauty of sheep doesn’t end there. Pasture management of animals improves and fertilizes the soil. They also help control problem plants. Their waste wool (skirting) and bedding from sheds, goes to our Hugelkultur gardening and wool mulching/fertilizing.

If you don't see what you are looking for please convo me. Whether you are learning to work with unprocessed wool or want scoured (washed) wool, need a full fleece or small quantities, I’ll help you find what you need. There’s nothing I enjoy more than helping someone discover the unique characteristics of Canadian homegrown wool!

Lorrie Reed and his shearers are booked 3 months in advance of the day. They do an excellent job keeping the well being of sheep and wool in mind. Lots of family and friends also lighten the workload!

  • Heidi

    Herder

Heidi is a Kelpie x Border Collie who saves me so much time and energy. She herds ewes, lambs, rams, ducks and chickens to wherever they need to be. Couldn’t do chores without her!
