Comencé a hacer husillos cuando un amigo quería comprar un husillo de gota genérico para aprender, lo miré y me ofrecí a hacer uno en su lugar. Después de investigar un poco, me di cuenta de que necesitaba un torno que compré rápidamente Craigslist por $ 50 junto con un poco de nogal, madera de cerezo y herramientas. Así que alrededor de $ 200 más tarde me puse en marcha para hacerle a mi amigo un husillo de gota de $ 20 ... Disfruté del tiempo en el torno y ese tiempo me llevó a mejorar en la fabricación de husillos. Después de unas semanas, me sugirieron que intentara tirar algunos en ETSY y ver qué sucede y se hicieron mis primeras ventas, lo que me motivó a seguir adelante.
Comencé a buscar inspiración en otros fabricantes de husillos y me di cuenta de que había muchas posibilidades entre materiales, diseños y colores. Quería hacer algo diferente pero al mismo tiempo seguir siendo 100% funcional. Cada dólar que ganaba volvía a comprar nuevos materiales, maderas y herramientas para probar nuevas ideas.
Es posible que veas una variedad de husillos en mi tienda, pero siempre hay "experimentos" en los que estoy trabajando. Tengo un cajón lleno de prototipos que no me gustaron o no pensé que estuvieran listos para la producción que se quedan allí por si acaso me inspiran a probar algo nuevo. Muchas de mis ideas son una mezcolanza de otras ideas que simplemente se unen y funcionan.

I started making spindles when a friend wanted to buy a generic drop spindle to learn on, I looked at it and offered to make one instead. After some research I realized I needed a lathe that I quickly purchased Craigslist for $50 along with some walnut, cherry lumber and tools. So about $200 later I set off to make my friend a $20 drop spindle… I enjoyed time on the lathe and that time led me to getting better at making spindles. After a few weeks it was suggested I try to toss a few on ETSY and see what happens and my first few sales were made which motivated me to keep going.
I started looking at other spindle makers for inspiration and realized there were so many possibilities between materials, designs and colors. I wanted to make something different but at the same time still it be 100% functional. Every dollar I made went right back at buying a new materials, woods and tools to try new ideas.
You might see a variety of spindles in my shop but there are always “experiments” that I am working on. I have a drawer full of prototypes that I didn’t like or I didn’t think were ready for production that get left there just in case they inspire me to try something new. Many of my ideas are a hodgepodge of other ideas that just happen to come together and work.
