Hello and welcome to my Etsy store "Lingopal Designs"! My name is Jaylene, and I am excited to share my story with you. As a PhD at-home mom, I am always on the lookout for ways to enhance my children's education. My husband and I are fluent in three languages - Mandarin Chinese, Korean, and English - and we are determined to pass on this valuable gift of language to our two boys.
Living in an area with a small Asian community, I often struggled to find high-quality educational materials that focused on simplified Chinese characters while also providing meaningful cultural context. At the same time, I’ve always believed in the value of mixed-age learning and the power of intergenerational connection. To me, language should bring people together — not divide them by age.
Many traditional language programs are designed for narrow age ranges, which I found frustrating. Once the basics are mastered, why should age limit your journey in learning a language? Language education should be inclusive, flexible, and accessible to anyone with curiosity and interest.
This realization inspired me to create my own homeschooling Chinese curriculum. I began developing printables and resources that helped my children learn Mandarin in a way that was both effective and engaging — materials rooted in culture, creativity, and meaningful connection.
Encouraged and inspired by my boys, I also launched a YouTube channel to share free Mandarin and Chinese culture resources, targeting intermediate and advanced learners as well as culture enthusiasts eager to dive deeper.
As I guided my children in exploring their heritage, I came to understand that language is only part of the journey. True connection comes from cultural immersion — through stories, symbols, traditions, and everyday expressions of identity. This insight led me in a new direction: designing apparel and accessories that weave together multilingual and multicultural elements. These pieces allow language learners and culturally curious families to celebrate their heritage with pride, spark conversations, and make culture a joyful, visible part of everyday life.
