A partir de la escuela secundaria, tuve una pasión por crear, y comencé a crear joyas con cuentas, haciendo piezas personalizadas para los clientes y haciendo mis propias creaciones para vender en ferias y mercados de artesanía. Sin embargo, he crecido personalmente y a través de mis diseños en los últimos seis años. No entendía el aprecio de mi madre por todo lo vintage y lo antiguo. Nuestra casa está llena de muebles antiguos, y aunque es hermosa nunca entendí su valor o importancia. Poco a poco empecé a darme cuenta de que todos los muebles que compras en Target o IKEA están de moda y son emocionantes... pero generalmente se desmoronará con el desgaste normal durante un par de años. Mi habitación en nuestra casa siempre tenía soportes de televisión y mesas tambaleantes, pero el resto de la casa tenía mesas y gabinetes de madera maciza que habían pasado los siglos, y seguía siendo hermosa, única y emocionante. Una vez que me di cuenta de esto sobre los muebles, rápidamente me di cuenta de las mismas cosas sobre muchos otros aspectos de nuestra cultura de ventas hoy en día. Una cosa es innegable: las cosas no están hechas como solían ser. Entonces, ¿por qué tontear con todos los muebles / joyas / obras de arte mediocres y poco originales, etc.? Prefiero tener algo que nadie más tiene, y que nunca se puede recrear en su totalidad.

Fue entonces cuando encontré mi vocación, mi propio giro para llevar lo viejo a lo nuevo y hacerlo moderno y emocionante de una manera completamente nueva. Seamos realistas: las tiendas de hoy en día no hacen joyas como solían hacerlo. La joyería de pedrería del pasado a veces tiene algunas alteraciones de color, pero creer que algo así ha cambiado en una pieza y que sigue siendo vibrante e impresionante a su manera es innegable. Si estas piezas de pedrería pueden verse tan bien ahora, entonces no puedo imaginar lo increíbles que eran nuevas.

Elegí el nombre ReDefined para mi empresa porque no trato de atribuirme el mérito del trabajo que ya se ha hecho. La joyería vintage de pedrería fue creada maravillosamente y eso no se debe en parte a mí. Aprendo y proporciono toda la información que puedo sobre una pieza que creo al cliente. Si diseñadores como Coro o Sarah Coventry hicieron estos elementos vintage, entonces les doy crédito. Redefino las joyas, convirtiendo broches y pendientes que no se usarían tan comúnmente en su intención original hoy en día en algo nuevo, hermoso y único. Me atribuyo el mérito de eso, me atribuyo el mérito de redefinir lo que ya se hizo, combinarlo con otros elementos vintage que se complementan entre sí y hacer una pieza original que puede estar seguro de que está hecha de algo que durará.

Starting in highschool I had a passion to create, and started creating beaded jewelry - doing custom pieces for customers and making my own creations to sell at craft fairs and markets. However, I have grown personally and through my designs in the past six years. I didn't understand my mother's appreciation for everything vintage and antique. Our house is filled with antique furniture, and although its beautiful I never understood its value or importance. Slowly I started to realize that all the furniture you buy at Target or IKEA is trendy and exciting... but will usually fall apart with normal wear and tear over a couple years. My room at our house always had wobbly tv stands and tables, but the rest of the house had solid wood tables and cabinets that had made it through centuries, and was still beautiful, unique and exciting. Once I realized this about furniture I quickly realized the same things about many other aspects of our sales culture today. One thing is undeniable- things aren't made the way they used to be. So why fool around with all the mediocre and unoriginal furniture/jewelry/artwork and etc? I would much rather have something that nobody else has, and that can never be recreated in its entirety.

That's when I found my calling, my own twist to bring the old into the new and make it trendy and exciting in a whole new way. Let's face it - the stores of today do not make jewelry like they used to. Rhinestone jewelry from the past sometimes has some color alterations but to believe that something like that has changed on a piece and that it is still vibrant and stunning in its own way is undeniable. If these rhinestone pieces can look this good now, then I can't imagine how amazing they were brand new.

I chose the name ReDefined for my company because I don't try to take credit for the work that has already been done. The rhinestone vintage jewelry was created beautifully and that is in no part due to me. I learn and provide as much information as I can about a piece I create to the customer. If designers like Coro or Sarah Coventry made these vintage elements then I give them credit. I re-define jewelry, making brooches and earrings that wouldn't be worn that commonly in their original intent today into something new, beautiful and unique. I take credit for that, I take credit for redefining what was already made, pairing it with other vintage elements that compliment each other and making an original piece that you can be sure is made from something that will last.
