Durante mucho tiempo me han influenciado e inspirado los objetos hermosos y el arte, la lectura, la música, el teatro y las películas. Se meten en todo lo que hago. Aprendí a hacer libros en la Biblioteca Británica y fue toda una revelación; reavivó mi amor por hacer cosas y procesos creativos. No me había dado cuenta de lo "agujero de conejo" de un viaje que sería. Me despertó viejos impulsos artísticos, investigaciones sobre la historia de la producción de libros y cómo ha influido en el desarrollo humano y me ayudó a redescubrir el placer que obtengo al compartir mi trabajo con los demás.
Siempre he pintado, pero recientemente puedo decir que he desarrollado nuevas habilidades con la acuarela y el gouache, con el marmoleado (uso algunos de mis papeles en mis libros), la fabricación de papel (también en algunos de mis libros) y la iluminación y el dorado.
Mis obras de arte y productos están inspirados en los hermosos libros, escritos, autores, ilustraciones e impresionantes iluminaciones que he encontrado. Mi creciente colección incluye más de 40 libros hechos a mano, grabados artísticos, obras de arte con iluminación de oro de 24 quilates y obsequios bien pensados, todos relacionados con libros, libros de arte y literatura.
LOS LIBROS
Empecé a encuadernar libros después de asistir a un curso en la Biblioteca Británica de Londres. Desde entonces he seguido aprendiendo y estoy desarrollando continuamente las habilidades necesarias para hacer una variedad de diferentes tipos de libros. Utilizo una variedad de métodos de encuadernación que incluyen copto, folleto, encuadernación japonesa y libros abatibles completos.
Siempre me gustaron los libros coptos y las ingeniosas complejidades del lomo abierto, así que me puse a aprender sobre las diversas puntadas que puedes usar para embellecer. Cuanto más investigas, más te das cuenta de cuántas formas diferentes de hacer libros hay y cuán ingeniosos son algunos creadores de libros.
EL PROCESO
Cada libro es único y completamente hecho a mano de principio a fin. Este proceso puede llevar varios días, desde medir y cortar páginas, hacer cubiertas, encuadernar con hilo encerado y finalmente prensar hasta ocho horas.
La calidad y la sostenibilidad son importantes para mí, por lo que, siempre que sea posible, mis materiales se reciclan o reutilizan, incluido el papel de algodón indio hecho a mano, el cuero recuperado para las cubiertas y, más recientemente, he hecho mi propio papel con los recortes en mi estudio.
He estado aprendiendo el arte de la iluminación, es decir, la aplicación de pan de oro a las ilustraciones, de un maestro iluminador, Toni Watts. Bueno, esto despertó mi amor por la pintura y el uso de acuarelas e ilustraciones de libros y portadas de libros.

I have long been influenced and inspired by beautiful objects and art, by reading and music and by theatre and films. They creep into everything I do. I learnt how to make books at the British Library and it was such a revelation; it rekindled my love of making things and creative processes. I hadn’t realised what a ‘rabbit hole’ of a journey it would be. It awakened old artistic urges, researches into the history of book making and how it has influenced human development and helped me rediscover the pleasure I gain from sharing my work with others.
I have always painted, but recently I can say I have developed new skills with watercolour and gouache, with marbling (I use some of my papers in my books), paper making (also in some of my books) and illumination and gilding.
My artwork and goods are inspired by the beautiful books, writings, authors, illustrations and stunning illuminations I have come across. My growing collection includes over 40 handmade books, art prints, art work with 24 karat gold illumination and thoughtful gifts all linked to books, book art and literature.
THE BOOKS
I started book binding after attending a course at the British Library in London. Since then I have continued learning and am continuously developing the skills needed to make a variety of different types of books. I use a variety binding methods including Coptic, Pamphlet, Japanese Stab bindings and full casement books.
I always loved the Coptic books and the clever intricacies of the open spine, so I took to learning about the various stitches you can use to embellish. The more you investigate, the more you realise how many different ways of making books there are and how ingenious some book makers are.
THE PROCESS
Each book is unique and entirely handmade from start to finish. This process can take a number of days – from measuring and cutting pages, making covers, binding with waxed thread and then finally being pressed for up to eight hours.
Quality and sustainability are important to me, so wherever possible my materials are recycled or reused including handmade Indian cotton paper, reclaimed leather for the covers and more recently I have made my own paper from the off cuts in my studio.
I have been learning the art of Illumination - that is the applying of gold leaf to illustrations - from a master illuminator, Toni Watts. Well, this reawakened my love of painting and using watercolours and book illustrations and book covers.
