My alternative skin care expertise began ten years ago in the Ontario College of Art & Design darkroom as an analog-process photography student. My knowledge of hazardous chemistry and the dangers of bioaccumulation made me curious to begin researching chemicals in consumer products, especially those in the cosmetics industry. I did not like what I discovered. Responding to my own concerns and those of friends with cosmetic intolerances, I turned my research to traditional beauty preparations culled from a variety of cultural sources. Acquiring natural, food-based ingredients, I began to formulate alternative chemistries for skin and hair care. My desire to live simply and more naturally, coupled with the wonderful results seen from people who use my preparations, inspired me to start THE BASIC ELEMENTS.
