PLEASE WATCH MY LISTING VIDEOS:
Opal is notoriously difficult to represent as beautifully as the naked eye sees it in a still picture. Photographing opals is the bain of my existence!

Therefore, treat yourself to watching the VIDEO as well as looking at the still pictures of my listings that most of my items have.

The VIDEOS are found in the "Description" area of the listing.

CHOOSING YOUR OPAL:

I am always happy to choose your opal for you.

However, you may also choose your own from my opal collection.

I have stunning Solid White and Black opals, Black opal doublets, and Natural Australian opal Triplets for you to choose from for the setting you are buying.

My collection of AAA Grade and Top Rare Gem Grade Natural Australian Opal Triplets can be seen on VIDEO.

Ask me to direct you to the video of the opals available in the size for the setting you are interested in.

*Also ALL other types of opal I sell can be seen in a VIDEO'S further down in this note.

MY OPALS COLLECTION IS RESERVED FOR MY CLIENTS:

Sorry, but I DO NOT sell my opals separately from my Jewelry.

The video listings of my opal collections are just for my clients to choose their opal for the setting they are buying.

The actual PRICE of the AAA Grade Australian Opal Triplets are integrated into the SETTING PRICE.

Therefore I list them without a price ( Actually ETSY makes me put a price on them so I list them for .20 cents).

Obviously my opals cost a lot more than .20 cents!

As I said, the price of the opal is incorporated into the SETTING price.

The upgraded Top Rare Gem Grade Australian Opal Triplets lists the UPGRADE price above the base price which is incorporated into the setting price.

TO ORDER YOUR OWN OPAL AND SETTING:

Simply add your opal choice to your cart along with your chosen setting.

So you should have 2 items in your cart at check out if you are choosing your own opal from my AAA Grade or Gem Grade collection of Natural Australian Opal Triplets.

To see my Solid White and Black opals & Black Opal doublets in stock I will make you a private VIDEO upon request.

First choose the setting you want so I will know what size opal to video for you.

For the private video please leave me your REGULAR email addressor me to send it to as ETSY email does not support video files.

JEWELERS RING FITTING SECRETS:

I have a plastic disposable ring sizer you can order for 2.00, or you can go to a local Jeweler for ring sizing.

BRING HAND LOTION TO THE JEWELRY STORE:

Pay attention to this!!

1: When you're sizing your finger and a jewelry store make SURE you bring something to use as a lubricant for your knuckle. Hand sanitizer works well.

2: Lubricate your knuckle RIGHT before trying on the ring sizer.

3: Make sure that the ring sizer is TIGHT going over your knuckle.

4: That will ensure that the ring doesn't SPIN around on your finger once over the knuckle.

5: You should have to use soap or lotion to take your ring off!

That is the correct size for a top heavy ring with a stone like mine.

RING SIZER THICKNESS:

1: A Jeweler store usually has a Thin and a Wide ring sizer for you to use in order to determine your size for the ring you will be buying.

Wide rings size 1/4 to 1/2 a size larger than thin banded rings.

2: Be sure to ask your local Jeweler to fit you with the matching sizer to match the type of ring you ordered.

RE-SIZING MY OPAL RINGS:

If you bought an opal ring from me and it doesn't fit right I don't recommend that you take it to a local Jeweler to size.

Most Jewelers are not opal specialists and will most likely break your opal either while trying to take it out of the setting for soldering or by exposing it to the heat of the torch.

I am a specialist at sizing opal rings so I recommend you return it to me for sizing.

DOMESTIC SHIPPING OPTIONS:
You only pay 1/2 of what my actual shipping charges are. Here's why:

I pay high additional fees for full insurance and tracking averaging $20-50 per package.

I ship everything Priority mail with 1-3 day delivery.

You have a choice of "signature required" or not, for which I will pay the additional charge for.

Please leave me a NOTE with your preference in the " Note to Seller" box you will see at checkout.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING OPTIONS:
First Class is 10 days plus. No tracking or insurance.
Priority International is 4 to 6 days with tracking and insurance.
Fed Ex International overnight with tracking and insurance.

France : Due to rampant loss all items must go Express Mail with signature confirmation.

* All delivery times are in given business days.

See more about the different types of opals below:

THE QUEEN OF GEMS:
Dubbed the "Queen of Gems" by William Shakespeare in his play "Twelfth Night," the opal is among the most beautiful and varied gemstones available. Like many other precious and semiprecious stones, opals were traditionally thought to have various powers and symbolic associations. While most people no longer believe in the powers of stones, some symbolic associations remain. Opal is the birth stone for October, for example, and is considered an appropriate gift for a 14th wedding anniversary. Different colors of opal are associated with different astrological signs.

Opals also just look amazing. No symbolism is strictly necessary to appreciate these stones. Opals are somewhat delicate, and it is important to care for them properly. Opal seekers will find a large selection of beautiful opal rings, opal necklaces, opal earrings, and opal bracelets in my shop and all are available in a variety of colors and styles.

DISCOVERING OPALS:
Opals can be found in a range of colors, from pale or white opals to greens and blues, and the more rare and valuable red or even black opals. Within this background color often sparkle glints, specks, and flashes of almost any color of the rainbow. Blues and greens are the most common, though red also occurs. The effect is called "play of color," and not all opals show it.

Opals are not truly minerals, the way most precious stones are. Unlike diamonds or emeralds, they have little to no crystalline structure. Instead, they are something like a hardened gel made of silica and some water. But the stones are not without their own kind of structure.

The structure of the stony gel varies, and depending on this structure, the stone will refract light differently. It is this variable structure, and not so much variation in what the stone is made of, that gives opals such varied color and play of color.

Before starting to shop for opal jewelry, buyers should learn a little about the many types of opals, how to identify them, how they relate to each other in value, and of course, how to care for them.

THE TYPES OF OPALS:
Jewelers have developed an intricate terminology for the many colors and types of opal, plus there are synthetic opals, imitation opals, and various settings and treatments of opals that each have their own names.

Some locations are particularly famous for producing opals. Most are Australian, but they are also mined in Ethiopia, Mexico, Spencer Idaho, and several other countries throughout the world.

Particular opal-producing regions are known for rare or unique stones, and these place names have become part of the opal lexicon. This list serves as an introduction to the variety of terms used to describe opals, and opal enthusiasts should familiarize themselves with the correct terminology.

Natural Rough Opal: These opal types are found naturally in the ground, and are sold in their natural state (not cut and polished).

Australian Black Opal:
Black opals are among the most rare, and most highly prized opals. While not actually black, the basic color is dark, with dramatic flashes of varied color burning inside. While other opals may exhibit play of color, black opals are among the most impressive.

Australian White Opal:
White, or milky opals are more common than Black opals. They do not refract color as well as black opals and often cost less. I sell only Top Gem Grade Solid White opal cut just for me by my Master cutter in Australia.

I don't think you can find better more beautiful Solid White opal than what I buy from him. I looked for many years for this source.

What you want with Solid White opal is a level of Translucency so you can see the pastel colors easily through the matrix. Lovely pastel Blues, Greens, Reds, Yellows and sometimes Purples are seen in Top Gem Grade White opals.

Ethiopian opal: Ethiopian opal is a fairly newly discovered opal. 2008. It has beautiful delicate iridescent colors in a clear or yellow matrix.

Boulder Opal:
Boulder opals are mined in Queensland, in northeastern Australia, and are high quality opals formed in siliceous ironstone concretions, or boulders.

Matrix Opal:
Matrix opals have opal diffused throughout a host rock, often in very thin layers.

Crystal Opal:
Crystal opals, a type of transparent opal that tends to reflect a fair amount of color, rank next to the black opal in terms of rarity and value.

Fire Opal:
Fire opals, found in the Mexican highlands, do not have much play of color, but are treasured for their rare red-orange color.

Doublet Opals:
A doublet opal is actually a thin layer of natural opal set on a backing of some other stone or even another opal of lower quality. The other stone can make the opal’s colors show up better, and also provides support. Sometimes opal occurs in very thin layers that are not strong enough to be made into jewelry unless it is set on a backing.

Triplet Opals :
Triplet opals, like doublets, have a layer of opal set on a backing of some other stone, but they also have a top layer of quartz, or sometimes Pyrex, covering the fine opal. The covering helps protects the opal.

Potch Opal:
Potch, or common opal, is without play of color, and are not considered as valuable as more refractive opals. However, potch can be very beautiful. It can occur in almost any color, with an odd, almost pearly luminescence.

Artificial Opals:
These opals are, loosely speaking, artificial. That does not mean they are fake. Some forms of artificial opal are chemically identical to natural opal, and others include both natural opal and other materials.

Synthetic Opals:
Synthetic opals are chemically and structurally identical to natural opals, but are created in the lab, not in the ground. They are not be confused with natural opals. Among the differences are their color patterns, which are often more regular and precise, and synthetic opals appear glassier than natural ones.

Imitation Opals:
There are stones that are made to look like opals. They are made from other materials like glass, plastic, or synthetic opal. Some with plastic binders are called synthetic opals, but this is incorrect. Like synthetic opals, they are often fairly cheap to buy, but imitation opal can still make beautiful jewelry. They may not be real opals, but there is nothing fake about the beauty of a well-made imitation, and when it comes to jewelry, its beauty is really the whole point.

THE VALUE OF OPALS:
Much like valuing a diamond or other gemstone, several factors help determine the value of an opal.

Play of Color The range of hues of refracted light an opal holds plays an important role in determining its value. Opals that flash red, among their other colors, hold a higher value than more common stones that have only green or blue hues.

Pattern Evocative terms such as harlequin, fire, and peacock describe the unique interplay of color in an opal. Some patterns are more highly sought than others.
Brilliance The amount of light an opal refracts factors into an opal’s value, along with its hue. The most valuable opals show brilliant flashes of color. Lesser-quality opals have dull or subdued colors.

Color Bar The thickness of the opal layer containing color corresponds to value. Opals with a thicker color bar typically hold a higher value.

Body Tone The underlying color of an opal, as well as the rarity of that color, is also part of its value. Black opals, being very rare, are the most valuable. White opals, the most common opals, often hold the least value. Light gray, gray, and semi-black opals fall in the middle in terms of value.

Faults Opals with cracks, inclusions, or other faults are less valuable.

I examine all of my SOLID opals and DOUBLETS under magnification in person when buying them.

They are all Flawless and are the Top Rare Gem Grade highest quality opals available.

WHY AN OPAL TRIPLET?
Because I choose to make my Opal rings wearable Daily including in engagement and wedding rings I go the extra mile and make my opals into Triplet form with a durable crystal clear cap.

TEMPERATURE TOLERANT:
You can be assured that you can wear your opal ring as safely in a hot tub as in the snow! Where as the beautiful opal underneath without a cap is almost guaranteed likely to crack if you did that.

IMPACT RESISTANT:
The cap also makes this opal impact resistant. Which is a huge plus for opals. Making is Opal intoa triplet elevates it from a "special wear" ring to a daily wear ring. As a triplet you no longer have to worry about "whacking" your expensive ring on something and shattering or chipping your beautiful opal.

AFFORDABILITY:
In addition to these obvious benefits, an opal Triplet is much more affordable than it's solid (and more fragile) opal cousin.
Now more people can afford a beautiful opal.

OPAL TRIPLET GRADES:
I sell my opals and three grades Listed here from highest to lowest price:

1: Top Gem Grade: Large Swaths of Multi color bright reds, and yellow fire over a Blue/ green iridescent background...

2: AAA Grade: Swaths of Multi Color Oranges and iridescent greens of color over Blue background.

3: B Grade: Features a Pin-Fire Multi-color pattern dominant in Iridescent Greens and Blues. I do not carry B Grade opal triplets.

MY OPAL TRIPLETS:
I am sure you have rarely seen Natural Australian Opal Triplets as vibrant as mine. Here's why:

My Top Quality Gem Grade Natural Australian Opals were mined at the famous Coober Pedy Australian Opal mine Valley. They are made into Triplet from to increase it's beauty, durability and to make a vivid colored Natural Opal available affordable price!

I special ordered this Opal from my Gemstone Cutter in Australia. He cut this opal from Top Gem quality Grade Opal Rough usually reserved for solid opals.

As far as I know, I'm the only person who has her Triplets cut from the highest grade opal rough.

Most Triplets are B Grade and made out of the inferior opal rough.

From these superior rough cut opal triplets, my opal cutter sets aside his “Cutters Choice” most beautiful and vibrant opals for me.

After a time, he has enough of these special "cutters choice" selections to make up a parcel.

I procure them for you so that you may have the most vibrant Gem Grade Natural Australian Opal Triplets available.

It is rare to be in that position to pick from the cream of the crop before the gemstones do a rotation around the world on the gemstone market and all the good ones get picked through.

I guarantee you will love your beauty of your durable Natural Australian Opal Triplet.

HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR OPAL JEWELRY

Solid Opals are relatively fragile stones and require proper care to withstand the tests of time.

Solid Opals are relatively soft stones, and can break or scratch.

Opals also contain varying amounts of water.

AUSTRALIAN OPALS:

For Australian Opals the water can evaporate causing the stone to lose its luster or even crack or as it is called, "Craze". Due to this, some people store their Australian Opals in water.

ETHIOPIAN OPALS:
Do NOT store Ethiopian opals in water! They will turn CLEAR temporarily. When they dry out the color and luster will fully return.

Don't worry about washing your hands. That much water will not turn your Ethiopian Welo opal clear. But you might want to take it off when you take a shower.

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS:
• Keep the temperature mild: Opals do not react well to extreme temperatures. When cleaning opals with water, do not use hot or boiling water. Also, do not expose a Solid Opal to freezing or very hot temperatures, if it can be avoided.
• Clean the stones carefully: When cleaning opals, use a damp, soft cloth, or a SOFT toothbrush and mild cleanser like dishwashing soap. Do not use paper towel as it will scratch the shiny finish of the opal.

Do NOT use bleach, harsh chemicals, or abrasive agents like Comet or Ajax that could scratch the stone.

Store the stones carefully: Opals should be stored for short periods in their box or a soft bag made of cloth to maintain their quality and shine.

OPAL TRIPLET CARE:
Opal Triplets are much sturdier than Solid Opals and the newer technologies allow them to be safely submerged in water of various temperatures.

As well as due to their obvious beauty rivaling that of Black solid opal, I like to use opal Triplets in Wedding and engagement rings that clients are going to be wearing their opal on a daily basis.

Buy a genuine gemstone as unique as you are. An Opal is a lifetime investment.

An amazingly colorful stone. Because of its shape and 2 mounting points, it hangs perfectly on the Omega necklace Amy thoughtfully included, making it much more comfortable for me than worn on a regular chain (I know 'cause I tried 😉). You simply cannot go wrong choosing your own special stone from her display.

Amy is so amazing & sweet!!! I would highly recommend her & all of the beautiful pieces she creates. My fiancé had ordered an engagement ring from her & when I couldn’t find a wedding band to match with it we reached out to Amy to make a new custom setting. This setting fits perfect with my wedding band and she took great care of my opal while working on it. I loved working with her and will definitely be reaching out to her if I am looking for any opal jewelry in the future. Thank you so much Amy!!

Profil des Shops

California Artisan specializing in Natural Opal Handmade Jewelry Creations.

I am a Jewelry Artisan specializing in Natural Opal Jewelry creations in Solid Gold, Sterling Silver, and Fine Silver. I live in San Jose and Walnut Creek California and have a home studios.

I like to work in a variety of methods; Gold Smithing, Lost Wax Casting, Computer Aided Design (CAD) with 3-D Printing, and Precious Metal Clay techniques.

CUSTOM DESIGNS:
I love how working these different Jewelry mediums gives me endless versatility and creative freedom to make custom Jewelry totally unique to the client's aesthetic.

To design a piece, I strive to have an online or Face-time chat with you so that I can best gain an in-depth sense of who you are, sketch out a design together, & thoroughly get your input so that I can generate a truly personalized creation for you.

COMPUTER RENDERINGS: While we are figuring out your custom design I generate a scale computer rendering so that you can see exactly what your Jewelry peice will look like when its done. It is this computer rendering that you approve and/or make changes to before I cast my design.

That rendering is so accurate can send the file off to a 3 D printer to generate a master of your Jewelry item to cast in Solid Gold or Silver.

A LITTLE ABOUT METAL CLAY JEWELRY MAKING...WHAT IS IT?
Sometimes I work with Precious Metal clay. Metal Clay is a crafting medium or working in metal in clay form. Much like a sculptor would use to make a Bronze statue. Metal Clay consists of very small particles of metal such as pure silver, gold, bronze, or copper mixed with an organic binder and water. It can be shaped just like any soft clay. After drying, the clay is be fired in a kiln. The binder burns away, leaving the pure sintered metal behind!.That metal can be fabricated in all of the normal ways of making jewelry.

HOW I WORK IN METAL CLAY:
Many of my pendants are handmade in Fine Siver Metal Clay. For rings, most often, I use Pure silver in Soft Clay form to create the master, then I make a mold of those designs and can cast them for you in Gold or Sterling Silver.

OPALS, OPALS, AND MORE KINDS OF OPALS.....My favorite gemstone.

Opals were dubbed the "Queen of Gems" by William Shakespeare in his play "Twelfth Night,".

I have a large collection of Natural Australian Black and White Opals. Solid Ethiopian White and Rare Black opals, Ethiopian Rough opal Natural Australian Opal Triplets made from opals mined at the Coober Pedy mine in Australia.

Opal is the perfect unique gemstone for making One of a kind Jewelry Art pieces! I love how each opal constantly reveals dynamic new aspects of itself in the ever changing light, just as each of us are unique individuals with a multitude of personality aspects, so is each opal unique.

Over years I have carefully gathered a large personal treasure trove of absolutely stunning Opals. You can choose a fine stone from my private collection which best matches your spirit or we can use a stone you provide.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OPALS:
Opal is one of the most popular gemstones in the world. Precious Opals reveal many iridescent colors, which change as a stone is viewed from different angles and light sources.

Be sure to look at your opal under a light to see it in all it's glory and reveal the iridescent opal fire unique to each opal.

TYPES OF OPALS:
Australian Solid Black Opal: -The most rare and highly prized of all opals. All true Black Opals come from the famous Lightning Ridge Australian Opal Mine. They feature a very dark black to blue color back ground and can contain fiery colors of the entire rainbow.

Australian Solid White Opal has beautiful delicate light pastel colors accept when sliced and used in an Opal Triplet.
Then the colors are Vivid and rival that of a Black Opal.

Ethiopian Solid White Opal features luminescent iridescent colors in a primarily clear or yellow matrix.

Rare Natural Ethiopian Solid Black Opal features stunning iridescent colors in a deep black matrix that needs light shined directly on it to reveal it's secretive colors.

Australian Boulder Opal: Boulder opals are mined from large ironstone boulders under the ground with veins of opal running through it.
Primarily Blue with red or orange and Green iridescent fire.
Mexican Fire Opal features a yellow to deep orange or red colors in the highest end Mexican Fire Opals.

Natural Australian Opal Triplets:
Because I choose to make my Opal rings wearable Daily including in engagement and wedding rings, you may decide you want to have one of my Natural Australian Opal Triplets instead of a solid White or Black opal. I go the extra mile and make many of my opals into Triplet form with a durable crystal clear cap that protects them from impact and temperature changes. Ask me more about this option.

Thank you for visiting AmyKJewels.

I use the Jewelers of America standard guidelines for my policy for returns.

If an item you bought was complete and "READY TO SHIP" you may return it within 10 days of receipt for a full refund.

If an item was "CAST TO ORDER" then you are due a 50% refund.

That is due to the fact that the metal and casting fees have already been spent at an outside casting lab I use. Also, some stones like opal once set cannot be unset with out breaking the opal or destroying the setting.

A bezel set opal ring for example cannot be unset once the opal is secured.
Only breaking the opal allows us to get the opal out at that point.
Some types of diamond setting would destroy the ring design to get those diamonds out like "flush" set diamonds. So the ring setting cannot be reused.

Sometimes if you want to buy a different item in place of the one you are not happy with I will be able to offer you your full price for an exchange.
