My name is Bigi

At some point, many years ago, the chameleon entered my life. I watched a wonderful BBC documentary about her and was suddenly in love. Territorial battles fought with colors - how peaceful the world would be! And this gang! Who walks through the world like that, finds it normal and rolls their eyes at the same time?
No, I didn't buy such an animal. But I suddenly had the idea that I really wanted to make a chameleon out of silver. Why? No idea. The idea kept catching up with me, but for years I didn't do anything for sloths to implement it. One day my sister and her partner gave me a watering course for Christmas. The two of them said that I should now take care of my talents and longings. At first, I didn't find the gift so funny. I was looking forward to the challenge, but at the same time I felt a bit condemned to it. Sloths are just like that.
Well, maybe it was the gift of my life. From day one, I was on fire (literally) for casting metals. The technique that is so archaic and was practiced thousands of years ago - already totally in love again!
First of all, of course, I cast a chameleon. And so it finally happened to me. With the birth of this still far too heavy, unbearable piece of bronze jewelry, the idea of the Bixis with its little stories has grown at the same time. Bixis? My father affectionately called me Bixli as a girl. And almost like that, my little creatures should be called:
Bixis by Bix.
Now I've been in love for several years. So in love that I even reduced my workload as a teacher of non-textile and textile design to devote myself to my passion. I make my models at home, where I have set up a mini workshop. At the vocational school for design in Zurich, I make the moulds and cast the silver. Back home I revise the castings. The stories about the Bixis only come to mind when the finished piece of jewelry is in front of me. As if the things told me :-).

Mein Name ist Bigi

Irgendwann, vor vielen Jahren, ist das Chamäleon in mein Leben getreten. Ich habe eine wunderbare BBC-Dokumentation über sie gesehen und war plötzlich voll verliebt. Revierkämpfe, die mit Farben ausgetragen werden- wie friedlich wär die Welt! Und dieser Gang! Wer läuft denn so durch die Welt, findet das auch noch normal und verdreht gleichzeitig die Augen?
Nein, ich habe mir kein solches Tierchen angeschafft. Doch hatte ich plötzlich die Idee, dass ich unbedingt ein Chamäleon aus Silber herstellen möchte. Weshalb? Keine Ahnung. Die Idee hat mich immer wieder eingeholt, doch habe ich Faultier jahrelang nichts dafür getan, sie umzusetzen. Eines Tages haben mir meine Schwester und ihr Partner zu Weihnachten einen Giesskurs geschenkt. Die beiden meinten, ich solle mich nun gefälligst mal um meine Talente und Sehnsüchte kümmern. Anfangs fand ich das Geschenk gar nicht so lustig. Hab mich zwar auf die Herausforderung gefreut, doch gleichzeitig ein bisschen dazu verdonnert gefühlt. Faultiere sind eben so.
Nun, es war vielleicht das Geschenk meines Lebens. Vom ersten Tag an war ich Feuer und Flamme (wortwörtlich) für das Giessen von Metallen. Die Technik, die so archaisch ist und schon vor tausenden Jahren praktiziert wurde- schon wieder total verliebt!
Als allererstes hab ich natürlich ein Chamäleon gegossen. Und so ist es endgültig um mich geschehen. Mit der Geburt dieses noch viel zu schweren, untragbaren Schmuckstücks aus Bronze, ist gleichzeitig die Idee der Bixis mit ihren kleinen Geschichten gewachsen. Bixis? Mein Vater hat mich als Mädchen jeweils liebevoll Bixli genannt. Und fast so sollten auch meine kleinen Kreaturen heissen:
Bixis by Bix.
Nun bin ich schon einige Jahre verliebt. So verliebt, dass ich sogar mein Arbeitspensum als Lehrerin für nichttextiles und textiles Gestalten reduziert habe, um mich meiner Leidenschaft zu widmen. Meine Modelle fertige ich zuhause an, wo ich mir eine Mini-Werkstatt eingerichtet habe. An der Berufsschule für Gestaltung in Zürich fertige ich die Formen an und giesse das Silber. Wieder zuhause überarbeite ich die Giesslinge. Die Geschichten zu den Bixis fallen mir erst ein, wenn das fertige Schmuckstück vor mir liegt. Als würden mir die Dinger die erzählen :-).
