A breast prosthesis... and a bag!
The genesis of an extraordinary breast prosthesis:
She was shocked...
Of course she was. Who wouldn't be? But although it seems omnipresent, you never expect it to hit you. Never smoked, eaten a healthy diet, made precautions, actually did everything you can do yourself to prevent it. Yes, as is always the case. Too much work, relocation, no new doctor found yet, a lot around the ears and suddenly two years are over. You don't feel sick, there's still time. First of all, finish this project, that task ...
But then, by pure coincidence, once pressed incorrectly on the mobile phone and accidentally called an old school friend who you have not spoken to for months. "So nice to hear a lovely voice," says the friend. "I really need it. I'm in the hospital right now, I have breast cancer." And all of a sudden, it's very concrete again, very close. So finally for prevention! And indeed. "You have something there," says the doctor and looks so funny. "I want you to have further investigations done as soon as possible." The first doubts, then the certainty. The shock. She has breast cancer.
From one day to the next it is called doctor's visits, chemotherapy, every week to the laboratory to check the values, hair loss, away from work, away from people. Because of the risk of infection, because the immune system is in the basement. Away from life as it was. Suddenly, the strong woman, the "career woman", the fighter, is weak. Stretched down by one's own body - by a damn body cell. She no longer understands the world because the body so cherished suddenly turns against her. The beautiful long hair has given way to baldness within a very short time. A few stubborn strands remain. "These are fighters!" she concludes. As combative as she is. They are not shaved off. She calls herself "Gollum". Refuses to give up her humor. Or their strength. She forces herself to do sports and exercise - every day. In the basement, the punching bag gets to feel their concentrated anger. It is one's own powerlessness that causes this impotent anger. She does not sink into self-pity, she is. "Mr. Krebs", the ass, has to keep his hands off her! There is this beautiful saying "Cancer touched my breast, so I kicked its ass!", that is now also their motto.
After months of chemotherapy, the first operation. Beautifully done, you could have gotten used to it, but unfortunately it's not enough. So the second operation follows. The entire breast has to believe in it. After all, the hair begins to grow again. From the "Gollum" to the lint-headed Amazon, as she herself calls it. And "Mr. Krebs" is out! The values are fine. Now it's uphill again. The body can slowly regenerate, the hair continues to grow and is suddenly curly. She feels strong again, almost healthy.
Only... the breast, the missing one. A structure was offered to her, with her own tissue from the abdomen. Tempting, but a very long operation. No, not more surgeries and medications. Not more weakening of the body. It must now be rebuilt and be strong to potentially destroy newly emerging cancer cells. No! The decision is made against it. Immediately after the mastectomy, she received a light breast prosthesis - still in the clinic. That helped to get over the initial shock. But a breast prosthesis? Every time she picks up one of these rubber breasts, she feels reminded of the loss of the breast again - that's over and that has to stop!
She decides that she has not lost a breast but has gained storage space! Her boyfriend reinforces her in this feeling, as he has supported her all along every step of the way through the disease. An idea matures in them. The friend's daughter can sew. Something has to be done. The idea is a bag in the form of a breast, which can be worn as a prosthesis, looks beautiful and also offers space for money, cards, make-up, medicines, keys or whatever else you want to transport safely on the body for small things. Gradually, different shapes are tried, materials are spied on, sewn, worn with growing enthusiasm and proudly shown around. Other breast cancer patients also become aware and register their interest. It seems as if you could also make other women happy with this slightly different prosthesis. So far, they call it breast pocket. A real name is needed. It should already express what it is. A kind of breast. Handmade, a small work of art. A chest work!
Inhaber, Designer, Maker
I came up with this alternative breast prosthesis, which is also a bag, together with a dear friend who had lost a breast to breast cancer. I make every single breast work by hand with a lot of love.

Frequently asked questions
Due to the volume, the size of a breast movement usually fits two different cup sizes. I orient myself on the standard dimensions of the German bra sizes. In order to maintain stability and due to the lower weight of the breastwork in contrast to a conventional prosthesis, I only make breast works up to a size of 80C. Larger baskets are unfortunately not practical.
Custom-made products and personalized orders
If you are interested in a personal breast work, for example with an embroidered name, a certain color or a different material than I currently offer, you are welcome to contact me. I will then inform you if or until when I can meet your wishes.
The chest work has a neoprene bottom, which feels comfortable on the skin. But this means that the breastwork only wants to be washed by hand. If you have a washing machine with hand washing setting, you can use this program without any problems. Subsequently, the chest is slightly shaped and dried open in the air.
Do other people notice the breastwork?
Experience has shown that the breastwork is simply in the bra and is not recognizable from the outside as a prosthesis. It is firm enough that it does not press and soft enough that it is comfortable to wear. Due to the feeding and subdivision within the chestwork, items such as cards, keys, money, etc. can usually be accommodated well without rattling or otherwise disturbing. Especially when traveling, but also in everyday life, you have a safe method of transporting your valuables.
Why do I need a breastwork?
No one will really need a breastwork. If you have had a mastectomy and do not want a build-up or your build-up is later, you can use a conventional prosthesis or simply none. As you prefer. But if you prefer a prosthesis for optical reasons and instead of a rubber breast you prefer to wear a pretty bag made of lace, cotton or taffeta, in beautiful colors, with enchanting patterns and also your make-up, money, keys, etc. securely packed on the body, then the breastwork is the right one for you. Not because you need it, but because you want to and can wear it!
