Thanks for stopping by! I work mostly in collage, mixed media, and digital art using elements of my other works. Studio B is where I make art. If you're wondering, Studio A is where I podcast (on YouTube) and Studio C is where I used to make cooking videos, but the lights have been off in there for several years.
I've been making art in one form or another my entire life. I did study Fine Art formally for a few years and, while I learned a lot of things I use in my art today, I also learned that I didn't meet the criteria to be allowed to call myself an artist. So, I left art alone for many years while I focused on my corporate career and on writing fiction. During those years, we got the internet and with it came an explosion in the arts and crafts community. Forums, tutorials, social groups suddenly made it easy to learn new techniques, but more importantly, these creators were giving us all permission to call ourselves artists...because we make art. In the "professional" art world, things changed, too. The value of a work was being influenced more by which celebrity collected an artist's work or which influencer was making it than on whether that work followed all those rules I learned in school.
In my 50s, I finally got comfortable wearing the label "artist," and built myself a home studio. Now retired, I have the great fortune of being free to make art nearly every day without the stress and concerns about being "liked," "followed," or even "sold." Of course, you're more than welcome to do all of those things and I would be thrilled if you did, but when I am creating those things are furthest from my mind.
I'm intuitive in my approach, planning only at the highest levels and then letting a work unfold as it will. I embrace the things that happen along the journey, including some of the things others might call "mistakes." I leave in the occasional unintended artifact that reveals the journey a work has been on...evidence of the humanness of the artist. It's my little way of rebelling against all of those school rules and against the advent of AI in art. It's the human touch and I am here for it. If you can appreciate that philosophy, then my art is for you.
