Our beds are made of solid wood and are bent from one piece in an elaborate steam process. This is particularly resource-saving, as only little waste is generated here, because the shape is not cut out of the wood, but the wood is bent into its shape.
The most famous curved furniture are the bentwood chairs by Michael Thonet, which are known all over the world and always exude a real Viennese café flair. Our beds are just as unique in the world: just like the chairs, the solid wood is only "cooked" with water vapor for hours, so that it can then be bent into shape either by machine or with pure muscle power (this depends entirely on the nature of the wood). After the bending process, the wood is stretched into a mold and must then remain there for at least a week so that the wood retains its shape after stretching. After that, the wood can be finally processed: the excess parts are sawn off (and used to heat the workshop), the workpiece is ground, all parts are assembled and then painted, oiled, or polished with beeswax according to customer requirements.
This process is very complex (which also justifies the comparatively high price) and also poses many problems: if the wood has only slight structural defects or if the process is not meticulously planned and carried out, it can lead to wood cracks, demolitions and even refractions. But even if this succeeds, this is not the guarantee that you will get a perfectly curved shape to meet the quality standard of our beds. That is why we – like Michael Thonet once did – have been perfecting our steam bending process for years and are now able to produce our bentwood beds in high quality as standard.

Each piece of furniture is absolutely unique and differs greatly from each other in wood patterns and color. Unsere Betten bestehen aus massivem Holz und werden in einem aufwendigem Dampfverfahren aus einem Stück gebogen. Das ist besonders ressourcenschonend, da hier nur wenig Abfall entsteht, weil die Form nicht aus dem Holz herausgeschnitten wird, sondern das Holz in seine Form gebogen wird.
Die bekanntesten gebogenen Möbel sind die Bugholzstühle von Michael Thonet, welche in der ganzen Welt bekannt sind und immer einen echten Wiener-Café Flair versprühen. Unsere Betten sind weltweit genauso einzigartig: genau wie bei den Stühlen wird das Massivholz erst über Stunden mit Wasserdampf "gegart", damit es danach entweder maschinell oder mit reiner Muskelkraft (das kommt ganz auf Beschaffenheits des Holzes an) in Form gebogen werden kann. Nach dem Biegevorgang wird das Holz in eine Form gespannt und muss dann mindestens eine Woche lang da bleiben, damit das Holz nach dem ausspannen auch seine Form behält. Danach kann das Holz final bearbeitet werden: die überschüssigen Teile werden abgesägt (und zum Heizen der Werkstatt genutzt), das Werkstück wird geschliffen, alle Teile werden zusammengesetzt und dann je nach Kundenwunsch lackiert, geölt, oder mit Bienenwachs poliert.
Dieses Verfahren ist sehr aufwendig (was auch den vergleichsweise hohen Preis rechtfertigt) und birgt auch viele Probleme: hat das Holz nur leichte Strukturfehler oder wird der Vorgang nicht minutiös geplant und durchgeführt, kann es zu Holzrissen, Abrissen und sogar Brechungen kommen. Doch selbst wenn das gelingt, ist das nicht die Garantie dafür, dass man eine perfekt gebogene Form erhält um dem Qualitätsstandards unserer Betten zu genügen. Daher perfektionieren wir – wie schon einst Michael Thonet – seit Jahren unser Dampfbiegeverfahren und sind heute in der Lage unsere Bugholzbetten serienmäßig in hoher Qualität zu produzieren.
Passend zu unseren Betten produzieren wir übrigens auch Nachttische mit dem gleichen Verfahren. Unsere Schlafzimmermöbel sind aufgrund des Herstellungsverfahrens und ihrer Form etwas ganz besonderes. Jedes Möbel ist ein absolutes Unikat und unterscheiden sich in Holzmuster und der Farbe sehr voneinander. Wir produzieren jenseits von Fast Furniture: unsere Bugholzmöbel halten über Jahre, sind zeitlos und einfach immer ein Hingucker.
