I like to knit for my life. Like many others, I work in the office on the computer - tables, Word documents, presentations, all this in project work. It takes a long time. And in the end, you have nothing tangible as a result. Knitting is quite different: it is finished quickly, and you can look at and touch the result! And you can be creative. These are simply nice successes. And it relaxes me.

I knit for a good cause, because I mainly process wool donations from acquaintances and donate the net proceeds to a good cause (currently the Zollstocker Animal Shelter and the association Straßenkatzen e.V.). It started with my previous employer, who is very supportive of its employees' charitable work. That's where it started with the wool donations, which I turned into baby things for mother-child homes in Germany. When this became public, I got the most beautiful wool donations from everywhere! "Nice idea... I have something else... always wanted for me... I never got to it.... too bad to throw away..." And when I changed jobs, I was allowed to leave with three large boxes, under the condition that I continue knitting for a good cause.

To date (July 2018) there have actually been 111 jackets, hoodies and shoes - and I hope there will be many more so that I can continue to donate the money.

Ich stricke für mein Leben gerne. Wie viele andere arbeite ich im Büro am Rechner - Tabellen, Word-Dokumente, Präsentationen, das alles in Projektarbeit. Es dauert lange. Und man hat am Schluss nichts Fassbares als Ergebnis. Stricken ist da ganz anders: es wird schnell fertig, und man kann das Ergebnis ansehen und anfassen! Und man kann kreativ sein. Das sind einfach schöne Erfolgserlebnisse. Und es entspannt mich.

Für einen guten Zweck stricke ich, weil ich überwiegend Wollspenden von Bekannten verarbeite und den Reinerlös für einen guten Zweck spende (momentan das Zollstocker Tierheim und der Verein Straßenkatzen e.V.). Das begann bei meinem vorherigen Arbeitgeber, der gemeinnützige Arbeit seiner Mitarbeiter sehr unterstützt. Dort fing es an mit den Wollspenden, die ich in Babysachen für Mutter-Kind-Heime in Deutschland verwandelte. Als das publik wurde, bekam ich die allerschönsten Wollspenden von überall her! "Schöne Idee... ich hab da noch etwas... wollte immer mal für mich... bin nie dazu gekommmen.... zu schade zum Wegwerfen..." Und als ich die Stelle wechselte, durfte ich mit drei großen Kartons gehen, unter der Auflage, weiter für den guten Zweck zu stricken.

Bis heute (Juli 2018) sind es tatsächlich 111 Jäckchen, Hoodies und Schühchen geworden - und ich hoffe, es werden noch viel mehr, damit ich weiter das Geld spenden kann.
