Después de pasar años en la escuela aprendiendo sobre relaciones internacionales, gestión de conflictos y el idioma francés, nunca se me ocurrió que realmente podría ser un artista. Si bien tomé clases de arte y fotografía en la escuela secundaria y he estado dibujando, pintando y tomando fotos desde que era un niño, ser artista y fotógrafo nunca se sintió como una posibilidad realista para mí.

Sin embargo, en 2016, eso cambió. Después de pasar por un momento difícil en la vida, decidí reconectarme con mis pasiones por el arte y la fotografía. Tomé una clase de acuarela en el Spruill Arts Center en Roswell, Georgia, ¡y me enganché de inmediato! Alrededor de ese tiempo, también comencé a fotografiar conciertos y tomar retratos familiares. Después de recibir comentarios positivos de amigos y familiares que me animaron a hacerlo, de repente pareció dentro del ámbito de la posibilidad que, ¡sí! ¡Soy un artista!

Si bien todavía pago las cuentas con un trabajo diario trabajando para una organización sin fines de lucro y usando las habilidades que aprendí en la escuela, estoy muy agradecida de que también tengo el tiempo y los recursos para pintar, dibujar y tomar fotos con las que la gente se conecta y ama.

Encontrar a Manders tiene que ver con la conexión, la conexión entre nosotros, con el arte y con el mundo que nos rodea. La mayoría de mis pinturas son de montañas u otras escenas de la naturaleza porque ahí es donde encuentro la mayor conexión. Me siento más como yo y más en casa al aire libre. Mi arte también es una mezcla de imágenes realistas y diversión creativa, y a menudo combino acuarela y tinta.

After spending years in school learning about international relations, conflict management, and the French language, it never occurred to me that I could actually be an artist. While I took art and photography classes in high school and have been drawing, painting, and taking photos since I was a child, being an artist and photographer never felt like a realistic possibility for me.

In 2016 though, that changed. After going through a tough time in life, I decided to reconnect with my passions for art and photography. I took a watercolor class at Spruill Arts Center in Roswell, Georgia, and I was immediately hooked! Around that time, I also started photographing concerts and taking family portraits. After receiving positive feedback from friends and family who encouraged me to go for it, it suddenly seemed within the realm of possibility that, yes! I *am* an artist!

While I still pay the bills with a day job working for a nonprofit and using the skills that I learned in school, I am so grateful that I also have the time and resources to paint, draw, and take pictures that people connect with and love.

Finding Manders is all about connection, connection with each other, with art, and with the world around us. Most of my paintings are of mountains or other nature scenes because that is where I find the most connection. I feel most like myself and most at home in the great outdoors. My art is also a mix of realistic images and creative fun, and I often combine watercolor and ink.
