FuroshikiDesign

sustainable giftwrapping

Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia

Announcement    The label was redesigned for the new year 2020, as were the labels. So they are nice and soft again and are sewn on individually. This way, the cloths are even more valuable and can be wrapped around any part.
Because without packaging it is not a gift!
The packaging expresses it. The love with which the content was chosen. The only pity is that this important and valuable wrapping is disposed off after unpacking.
The solution comes from Japan, the land of giving, where each family buys an average of 26 times a year and the language knows 35 expressions for giving.
Furoshiki are square scarves and true packing wonders. With different sizes, folding and knotting techniques, almost any item and gift can be artfully and yet easily and quickly packaged.

My hobby becomes a task

The story

In the middle of the daily routine of my working life as a pharmacist, my sister told me one day about the old Japanese tradition of wrapping gifts in towels. She hit the mark, because my creative side was always neglected in the medical sector and threatened to wither. We thought enthusiastically how this sustainable tradition could be put into practice and made available to the German market. Nice cotton fabrics that were suitable for the so-called furoshikis were quickly found. I was able to really live out my passion for colors, patterns and fabrics. Then there was my hobby: sewing. The first wrapping tissues were distributed among relatives on birthdays and met with amazement and then increasing enthusiasm among all recipients.

Thanks to the help of my daughter, our beautiful website was created and great product photos and instruction videos are created again and again.

We presented our first project on Facebook: Furoshiki kimonos as a New Year's present from the Regelbruch company. Finally, I opened an online shop and sold the art of packaging in markets.

In the future, the sustainability of these products should be combined with fairly traded materials and thus enable everyone to make sustainable FAIR gifts.
