How did I find my own shop?
A few years ago, I realized with absolute horror how much plastic waste we actually produce and what immense damage it has already caused to nature and wildlife. At that moment I knew that I wanted to change something.

It started with me drastically reducing my own plastic consumption. What I quickly noticed was that although there is the good old jute bag as an alternative to the large plastic bags, hardly anyone replaces the small disposable plastic bags from the fruit and vegetable department with a sustainable alternative. It is precisely these small bags that find a particularly short use and then immediately end up in the garbage again.

I myself had been on the road with reusable bags for some time now and not only I was enthusiastic about them, but also many others. I tell you, with these bags you get into conversation quickly! ;-)

When I realized that the openness to the topic was great, the idea of selling my own bags was suddenly quite obvious. And so I dared to take the step into self-employment. Without much know-how but a lot of passion for the cause.

It took me quite a while to find a suitable company for the production of the bags. From the very beginning, it was important to me that ethical and social standards exist and that the bags are made of organic cotton. I found what I was looking for at an Indian company from Calcutta, which is GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified and thus meets these requirements.

The finished bags are the result of a joint exchange process in which the manufacturer and I communicated about changes and subtleties until my original idea was implemented in the end. Oh, that was a feeling when I first held my finished bags in my hands! :)

Wie ich selbst zu meinem Shop gefunden habe?
Vor einigen Jahren habe ich mit absolutem Schrecken festgestellt, wieviel Plastikmüll wir eigentlich produzieren und welche immensen Schäden er bereits in der Natur- und Tierwelt angerichtet hat. In dem Moment wusste ich, dass ich etwas verändern will.

Das begann zunächst damit, dass ich meinen eigenen Plastikkonsum drastisch reduziert habe. Was ich dabei schnell bemerkte war, dass es zwar den guten alten Jutebeutel als Alternative für die großen Plastiktüten gibt, aber kaum jemand die kleinen Einweg-Plastiktüten aus der Obst- und Gemüseabteilung durch eine nachhaltige Alternative ersetzt. Dabei sind es gerade diese kleinen Tüten, die eine besonders kurze Verwendung finden und dann sofort wieder im Müll landen.

Ich selbst war mittlerweile bereits schon länger mit wiederverwendbaren Beuteln unterwegs und nicht nur ich war von ihnen begeistert, sondern auch viele andere. Ich sag dir, mit diesen Beuteln kommt man schnell ins Gespräch! ;-)

Als ich merkte dass die Offenheit für das Thema groß war, war der Gedanke meine eigenen Beutel zu verkaufen plötzlich ganz naheliegend. Und so wagte ich den Schritt in die Selbstständigkeit. Ohne großem Know-How aber viel Leidenschaft für die Sache.

Es dauerte eine ganze Weile bis ich einen passenden Betrieb für die Herstellung der Beutel gefunden hatte. Wichtig war für mich von Anfang an, dass ethische und soziale Standards bestehen und dass die Beutel aus Bio-Baumwolle gefertigt werden. Fündig wurde ich dann bei einem Indischen Betrieb aus Kalkutta, welcher GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standart) zertifiziert ist und somit diese Voraussetzungen erfüllt.

Die fertigen Beutel sind Resultat eines gemeinsamen Austauschprozesses, bei dem der Hersteller und ich so lange über Veränderungen und Feinheiten kommuniziert haben, bis am Ende meine Ursprungsidee umgesetzt war. Oh, war das ein Gefühl, als ich zum ersten Mal meine fertigen Beutel in den Händen hielt! :)
