The fascination with the coastal landscapes in the north led us to move from Hamburg directly to the beach of the Kiel Fjord in 2006.
Jens started painting the sea outside, in the early morning and right on the beach. The large maritime blue and white landscape paintings quickly found their friends, were presented in exhibitions and some were also sold.
So Jens became a sea painter.
Many people showed interest in painting, wanted to watch and would like to learn a few tips and tricks themselves. Older people talked about their long-dormant creativity, others about their canvases and colors at home, which they do not dare to approach on their own. This gave rise to the idea of promoting this often unconscious creative power of one's own.
We summed up Ute's competence in dealing with people and Jens' talent for painting and developed a unique painting course concept that has since given many people a relaxed approach to painting.
This is how the painting school of sea painters was born.
Why Deck Chairs?
They are also frequent guests on board cruise ships as on-board artists. After the painting courses, they appreciate the blue hours on deck and have often enjoyed the comfort of ship's deck chairs.
Some time ago, the designer Jens Jacobsen came across an older deck chair at a flea market. Small brass signs revealed that this deck chair had an eventful past behind it and was traveling on the oceans as the furniture of a steamer. There it was only allowed to be used by the guests of the 1st class. "1st Class only". Fascinated by the history of this world-traveled piece of furniture, he has since continued to search for classic original deck chairs that were already on the passenger decks of steamers. From time to time he succeeds in finding a specimen at home and abroad and assigning its origin to the old ships.
Of course, such a chair, often more than 70 years old, shows the traces of its time. Due to the solid construction and the high-quality hardwoods and brass fittings used at that time, these folding chairs can be restored with some expertise. This is done in the sea painter's workshop by the sea. There, this furniture is lovingly restored by hand and made fit for further years of use indoors and outdoors.
As a living classic, the furniture is not trimmed and repainted. You will receive a nourishing hand grind and, if necessary, some oil for preservation. The tarnished brass parts are only slightly polished. Finally, the surface tanned by salt water and sea wind shows the patina of a real sailor.
Each chair is photographed by us on the beach, receives a certificate with this photo and that of its steamer. The furniture leaves our workshop with a numbering with year on the underside and a marine painter fabric sign on the front leg of the chair.
