German Design Award Winner
It is an incredible honour for us that we have received the German Design Award for the letters.

Who is behind Monimari?
Tanja Angermeier – born in Frankfurt am Main in 1980. I live in Darmstadt with my family. Already at the age of 16 I moved out of my home to go to the Fachoberschule für Gestaltung in Frankfurt. Since then, I have remained faithful to the design.

Why sustainability?
Children can discover so much in the forest. They experience nature and let us participate in it. Through my everyday life with children, as a designer, I asked myself some questions about sustainability and how to make everyday things a little more environmentally friendly? How to save material? How can you give one and the same product more uses?

For me, it's a good incentive to develop something that is simply fun and almost casually has new possibilities. After all, as a designer, I have a responsibility and the task of touching hearts.

From the forest kindergarten to the world
In the forest kindergarten I met my graphic friend Yvonne Sedlacek. With her the first Monimari motifs were created. Actually, we were just looking for a few letters for our children. And because there were none, we finally made some ourselves. Many more letters followed for all the other children.

Katrin, another friend, showed all this to her friend from the shop of the Hamburger Kunsthalle. And zack – were the colorful letters in Hamburg. They were constantly reordered. At that time, the entire alphabet did not even exist.

We enjoyed designing the entire Monimari ABC and were proud of our joint design project. Soon it became clear to me that Monimari should be more than a hobby for me and so I officially turned it into a company.

In the course of time I designed more number postcards, invitations and many more motifs. In the meantime, more than 160 selected stores at home and abroad have Monimari in their assortment. The tickets are currently available in Switzerland, Austria, Finland and Canada.

Where does the name MONIMARI come from?
Yvonne Sedlacek and I developed the name together. It is composed of the first names of our mothers. When I took over MONIMARI, I was allowed to continue to bear the name – which honors me very much.
