"You do something with ironing beads? That's what I had as a child." is the phrase I often encounter as soon as I tell what I sell here on Etsy. And so it was with me. When I was still in kindergarten, I also had a bucket full of these small colorful pearls and my parents could not save themselves from the round and octagonal ironing bead motifs that they had to iron me together after laying.
Today I do that with the ironing myself. And the motifs are also a bit more sophisticated than 25 years ago. After I had no contact with it for many years after my first ironing bead phase in kindergarten, I met them again a few years ago – rather out of desperation. During my Master's degree in Communication Design, it happened as follows:
I lived in a dormitory at the beginning of my master's degree. During the winter semester break, most of my fellow students went home to their families, and my roommates had also flown out at the time. So I sat there and had incredibly great boredom. I don't remember exactly how I came up with it, but in search of a nice pastime and a new hobby, I found myself in the craft shop between the shelves with the ironing beads. Either it was coincidence, fate or simply the beautiful memory of childhood that I associated with the colorful pearls. Back at the dorm, I sorted them by color and filled them into empty jars.
Easy to stack and quick to look at, these jars are still on my desk. So the joy of the ironing beads has not been lost to me in the last 25. And why shouldn't I share them with other people?! I would be very happy to make one or the other smile with my motifs and to take them back to their childhood.
When using my small products, there are almost no limits to your imagination. Whether dangling from the rear-view mirror in the car, pinned to the denim jacket, sticking to the refrigerator or hanging from the Christmas tree – a motif of ironing beads is an eye-catcher and does not go unnoticed. ;)
"Du machst was mit Bügelperlen? Die habe ich als Kind auch gehabt." ist der Satz, der mir häufig begegnet, sobald ich erzähle, was ich hier auf Etsy verkaufe. Und so war es auch bei mir. Als ich noch in den Kindergarten ging, hatte ich auch einen Eimer voll mit diesen kleinen bunten Perlen und meine Eltern konnten sich nicht retten vor den runden und achteckigen Bügelperlen-Motiven, die sie mir nach dem Legen zusammen bügeln mussten.
Heute erledige ich das mit dem Bügeln selbst. Und auch die Motive sind etwas ausgefeilter als vor 25 Jahren. Nachdem ich nach meiner ersten Bügelperlen-Phase im Kindergarten lange Jahre gar keinen Kontakt mehr damit hatte, begegneten sie mir vor einigen Jahren wieder – eher aus Verzweiflung. Während meines Master-Studiums in Kommunikationsdesign trug es sich folgendermaßen zu:
Ich wohnte zu Beginn meines Masterstudiums im Wohnheim. In den Wintersemesterferien fuhren die meisten meiner Kommilitonen zu ihren Familien in die Heimat, auch meine Mitbewohner waren zu der Zeit ausgeflogen. So saß ich da und hatte unfassbar große Langeweile. Ich erinnere mich nicht mehr ganz genau, wie ich darauf kam, aber auf der Suche nach einem netten Zeitvertreib und neuem Hobby fand ich mich im Bastelladen zwischen den Regalen mit den Bügelperlen wieder. Entweder es war Zufall, Schicksal oder einfach die schöne Erinnerung an die Kindheit, die ich mit den bunten Perlen verband. Zurück im Wohnheim sortierte ich sie nach Farbe und füllte sie in leere Weckgläser.
Gut stapelbar und schnell zum Überblicken stehen diese Weckgläser immer noch auf meinem Schreibtisch. Die Freude an den Bügelperlen ist mir also auch in den letzten 25 nicht verloren gegangen. Und warum sollte ich diese nicht auch mit anderen Personen teilen?! Ich würde mich sehr freuen, den/die eine/n oder andere/n mit meinen Motiven zum Schmunzeln zu bringen und in seine Kindheit zurück zu versetzen.
Bei dem Einsatz meiner kleinen Produkte ist der Fantasie fast keine Grenzen gesetzt. Ob im Auto am Rückspiegel baumelnd, an die Jeansjacke gepinnt, am Kühlschrank haftend oder am Tannenbaum hängend – ein Motiv aus Bügelperlen ist ein Hingucker und bleibt nicht unbemerkt. ;)
