From puppy play dates to designing and creating personal, modern urns for our friends on the other side.
Somos Meg Oliver y Lucie Piedra, amigas desde hace mucho tiempo, artistas de cerámica y amantes de los animales con tres perros, dos gatos y siete gallinas entre nosotros. Ambos graduados del New York State College of Ceramics en alfred University, nos conocimos como artistas residentes en el Byrdcliffe Ceramic Studio en 2001 y hemos seguido siendo amigos. En la primavera de 2011, ambos tuvimos cachorros jóvenes y bulliciosos. Comenzamos a tener citas de juego de cachorros que nos llevaron a alternar días de trabajo en los estudios de los demás. Mientras nos ayudábamos mutuamente con el trabajo de estudio y veíamos jugar a los cachorros, nos dimos cuenta de que ambos habíamos perdido mascotas cuyas cenizas yacían en contenedores feos en nuestras casas. Nuestra siguiente tarea fue diseñar y crear urnas que se sintieran personales y reflejaran nuestros gustos. Esta fue la chispa que finalmente nos llevó a encontrar un espacio y abrir nuestro estudio colaborativo. Comenzamos haciendo urnas para cada una de nuestras mascotas y luego decidimos llenar el vacío en el mercado con urnas simples, modernas y personales.
We are Meg Oliver and Lucie Piedra, long time friends, ceramic artists and animal lovers with three dogs, two cats, and seven chickens between us. Both graduates of the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, we met as resident artists at the Byrdcliffe Ceramic Studio in 2001 and have stayed friends. In the spring of 2011, we both had rambunctious young puppies. We started having puppy play dates that led to alternating work days at each others studios. As we helped each other with studio work and watched the puppies play we realized that we both had lost pets whose ashes sat in ugly containers in our houses. Our next task was to design and create urns that felt personal and would reflect our tastes. This was the spark that ultimately led us to find a space & open our collaborative studio. We started by making urns for each of our pets and then decided to fill the hole in the market with simple, modern, personal urns.
