It all started in 2020, when the pandemic hit us, the country stood still for the first time. What to do with the "newfound" time?
Well, there is always something to do. So it turned out that a cabinet should be set up in the domestic woodpecker building. Under a sloping staircase. You can imagine that there was no "off-the-shelf" cabinet for this and that a custom-made cabinet was clearly too expensive. So all that remained was to do it yourself. The cabinet is still standing today - and that was the beginning of Woodpecker Design. More and more I fell in love with working with wood - an incredibly versatile material that appears in so many different forms. And always impressive, what can be conjured up from an "inconspicuous" piece of wood.
In the meantime, I can call a fairly well-equipped hobby workshop my own, in which I try out everything that has to do with wood. I am particularly fond of the traditional methods of woodworking. There is nothing better than guiding a hand planer over a piece of wood, listening to the "Ritsch", while you produce beautiful hobellocken and the scent of fresh wood rises in your nose....

But before I get into raptures, I prefer to say: Welcome to my little shop. Look around and if you like something, treat yourself!

Alles hat 2020 angefangen, als uns die Pandemie ereilte, das Land das erste Mal stillstand. Was tun mit der "neu gewonnenen" Zeit?
Nun, zu tun gibt es immer etwas. So hat es sich ergeben, dass im heimischen Spechtbau ein Schrank aufgestellt werden sollte. Unter eine Treppenschräge. Ihr könnt euch denken, dass es dafür keinen Schrank von der "Stange" gab und ein maßangefertigter Schrank deutlich zu teuer war. Also blieb nur selber machen. Der Schrank steht heute noch - und das war der Beginn von Woodpecker Design. Mehr und mehr verliebte ich mich in die Arbeit mit Holz - ein unheimlich vielseitiger Werkstoff, der in so vielen unterschiedlichen Erscheinungsformen auftritt. Und immer wieder beeindruckend, was aus einem "unscheinbaren" Stück Holz gezaubert werden kann.
Mittlerweile darf ich eine recht gut ausgestattete Hobby-Werkstatt mein Eigen nenn, in dem ich alles ausprobiere, was mit Holz zu tun hat. Besonders haben es mir die traditionellen Methoden der Holzbearbeitung angetan. Es gibt doch nichts Schöneres, als einen Handhobel über ein Stück Holz zu führen, dabei das "Ritsch" zu hören, während man schöne Hobellocken produziert und einem der Duft frischen Holzes in die Nase steigt....
