Jewelry inspired by travels to Iceland

Musician, artist, and designer, I do a little of everything. Formally trained in music composition, I spent a year in Iceland on a Fulbright Fellowship, writing music and touring the country. I fell in love with the natural and traditional materials of Scandinavia such as fish skin leather, wool, and lava. I've always made jewelry for friends and family, mostly with sterling wire and beads. After a few people commissioned me for one-of-a-kind necklaces and bracelets using my crocheted wire technique, I starting thinking more broadly about sharing my works with the world, and showcasing the unique places I've traveled. Adding more intriguing materials to my existing small line of contemporary jewelry was just the spark I needed to complete the vision, and I started 'n by nathan hall', a unique way to accessorize the contemporary human.

Welcome to 'n by nathan hall'. After living in Iceland for a year as a Fulbright Fellow in music, I was inspired by the natural resources of the country. I use lava and fish skin leather, along with other jewelry materials to create this collection of natural and geometric forms. I only use sterling silver ear hooks and findings, and aim to create a new and unique work every time.

Fish leather? Really? Yes! Fish skins have been used by the Icelanders for footwear since their colonization in the 800's. Today fish skin leather is seen as a more renewable form of leather, leightweight, durable, dye-able, and fashionable, and an excellent use of the fishes that are a main resources of income (and sustenance) for Iceland.
