Following my own path.
I am an artist and self-taught metal smith who has enjoyed playing with fire and hammering things since I was a child. I tried to walk the path expected of me, but that never felt comfortable or right, so as soon as I was able, I followed my own path, first as a professional equestrian trainer and coach, then as an artist and metal smith.
My studio is on my farm near a lovely agricultural town on the northern tip of Lake Temiskaming, surrounded by hundreds of miles of forest and lakes.
Every day, in every season, I am inspired by the life I see around me. The fields and trees, rivers and brooks, the animals and the flowers all inspire the things I create.
Feeling the wind in my hair and the grass under my feet every day has strengthened an innate connection to the earth. Living in an area of commercial mining, forestry and agriculture I see first hand the effect on the earth of every action we make. Jewellery making is no different. In order to minimize the impact of my actions, my studio is designed for environmentally sustainable creativity. The building itself and most of my tools and equipment are up-cycled or re-purposed. As much as humanly possible I use recycled and fair trade materials in my work.
My work follows it’s own path. Simple and organic, rustic and earthy - definitely not refined and mainstream - it embodies strength, independence, transformation, confidence.

I am an Artist and metal smith. My work explores the shapes, colours and textures of nature. With paint, found objects, metal and stone I express a deep, intuitive connection to the earth and the creatures which live upon it.

I care about every piece I create. I want my work to celebrate both nature and humanity without compromising either, and not be just a handcrafted alternative to the mass-market, sweatshop-manufactured culture we live in.
Therefore, wherever possible, I use recycled/reclaimed/vintage /free trade materials in my work, and packaging made from recycled/recyclable products.
All my jewellery is hand-made, by me, one at a time and in very limited editions. Many pieces are one of a kind. Ditto for my artwork. I create and sell original pieces of art, and also sell professionally made limited-edition giclee prints of many of those works.

A NOTE ABOUT SHIPPING COSTS
RE: Shipping within Canada. I will ship most items as regular or oversize lettermail, but if the item is un-replaceable, over $100 or so in value or thicker than the allowed 20mm, then I must use xpedited parcel or xpresspost.
RE: Shipping cost to the U.S. I will ship most items as light packet, but if the item is un-replaceable, over $100 or so in value or thicker than the allowed 20mm, I must then use small packet airmail which includes insurance. Very large items, such as larger paintings and prints will be shipped the most cost effective way possible.
IMPORTANT SHIPPING INFO FOR ITEMS BEING SENT TO THE US
Please note that shipping to the US can take anywhere from 6 to 12 days, sometimes (not often though) even longer! I always mail your item within 24-48 hours, often times the same day as purchased. I have no control over the actual shipping times once I've mailed the package. Please keep in mind that there can be, and occasionally are, delays with US Customs since they stepped up security at the border some time ago.
I know you are anxious to get your purchase...I am just as anxious for you to get it! I do my best to mail your items fast, after that, I have no control. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Julie
RE: Shipping cost for all other International (not including U.S.) - I am able to use overseas mail or light packet for smaller items but for thicker, larger or more expensive items, I must use small packet. Both of these are for air mail. Surface takes way too long! Please note even air mail may take up to 18 days for some areas. (actually, it's usually much quicker, sometimes even less than 7 days!)
