Hello and welcome! I am an American abstract artist that creates fluid, translucent paintings inspired by the natural world. The pieces are an exploration of organic, flowing forms rooted in the landscape’s processes and cycles. Often my work exists as an imagined form of the inner vitality of the environment. Ancient people gave these things names and personalities; I am giving them form.
The creative process involves a balance of control and abandon, a play between the intentional and incidental. I soak and stain my canvases, shifting the pigmented water around on the substrate. Letting one pour or mark lead me intuitively to the next. This results in diaphanous, open paintings that embrace a primal simplicity.
Living with one of my pieces brings a vibrant beauty and immersive, bold presence to your space. The paintings invite the viewer to the present moment, asking you to pause in calmness and peace, take in a breath and float into the piece.
A bit of history I am a graduate of Fairmont State University and West Virginia University, where I hold an Interdisciplinary BA in Studio Art/French and a BFA in Visual Art. While at FSU, I studied with acclaimed landscape painter Lynn Boggess and also met my future husband, Derek Overfield in figure drawing class. The time spent studying with Boggess instilled a deep appreciation for process and a strong work ethic, leading to several years of painting outdoors among the elements. That experience lends itself to the intensity and inspiration that I now draw on in the studio.
My work has been featured on blogs such as West Elm, HGTV, Elements of Style, and Kelly Market. I've collaborated with designers & brands like Crate & Barrel, created custom paintings for clients, and have works in both public & private collections. My husband and I live in a cozy 1930's house tucked into the hills of West Virginia. We partially renovated our home to fit in a studio for both of us to share, squeezed in with our two cats.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My work arises from an awareness and reverence for the physical environment around me. Awe of the land's pervasive mystery and potential grows inward and ultimately re-emerges in abstraction. I soak and stain my pieces, shifting the pigmented water around on the canvas. This painting process suggests the primal simplicity and organic rhythm of the landscape. Natural themes, such as the way water shapes the land, are mirrored in the visual traces of paint left behind.
I evoke the opposing forces of calmness and energy, permanence and transience witnessed in nature - the representation in paint akin to the glory in which a cathedral strives.
