What started as a community service project became an adventure to explore creativity and imagination.
Jessica und Barbara Vance sind die kreativen Köpfe hinter One Square at A Time, das seit Juni 2007 ein fortlaufendes Projekt ist. Nach vielen Schneetagen langweilte sich eine Jessica im Grundschulalter, also dachte ihre Mutter, es wäre eine großartige Idee, ihr Hobby, das Häkeln, zu teilen. Es war anfangs schwierig und frustrierend, weil es sehr schwer ist, präzise und kontrolliert zu sein, wenn man erst mit dem Lernen begonnen hat. Jessica, entmutigt, wollte schnellere Ergebnisse, also begann sie, Projekte am Knifty Knitter zu machen. Sie konnte eine Stunde lang eine Babymütze zücken, und sie war so aufgeregt! Das einzige Problem war, dass sie anfingen, sich anzusammeln, also machten Jessica und ihre Mutter einen Ausflug zum örtlichen Geburtshaus, wo sie ihre ersten 33 Hüte spendete. Im Laufe der Jahre verbesserten sich Jessicas Häkelfähigkeiten und ihre Mutter war ihre engagierteste Unterstützerin. In 7 Jahren haben sie über 3.538 Babyhut- und Bootie-Sets, 768 Babydecken, 44 Babysäcke, 197 Babypullover, 56 Babylätzchen und zahlreiche andere Gegenstände an lokale Geburtszentren, Krankenhäuser und Schwangerschaftsressourcenzentren gespendet. Jetzt arbeiten Barbara und Jessica gemeinsam an dem Projekt und verwenden die Gewinne aus diesem Shop, um die Sache One Square at A Time zu unterstützen.
Jessica and Barbara Vance are the creative minds behind One Square at A Time, which has been an ongoing project since June of 2007. After many snow days, an elementary-school-aged Jessica was bored, so her mother thought it would be a great idea to share her hobby, crocheting. It was difficult and frustrating at first, because it's very hard to be precise and controlled when you've only started learning. Jessica, disheartened, wanted faster results, so she started to do projects on the Knifty Knitter. She could whip out a baby hat an hour, and she was so excited! The only problem was that they started to accumulate, so Jessica and her mother took a trip to the local birthing center where she donated her first 33 hats. Over the years, Jessica's crochet skills improved and her mother was her most dedicated supporter. Over 7 years, they have donated over 3,538 baby hat and bootie sets, 768 baby blankets, 44 baby sacs, 197 baby sweaters, 56 baby bibs, and numerous other items to local birthing centers, hospitals, and pregnancy resource centers. Now Barbara and Jessica work on the project together, and use the profits from this shop to support the One Square at A Time cause.
