ABOUT US
Marakame is a brand that aims to merge art, design and culture in a creative and unique way through original pieces of art. It’s a project that spreads and commercializes art pieces from the Huichol people elaborated by different families from the rural communities in the Mexican Sierra Madre Mountains. Among them are De la Cruz Bautista, Carrillo Lopez, De la Cruz Lopez, Parra Lopez, and others.
It’s a Marcela Abarca and visual artist Fernando Motilla’s idea. When Fernando commissioned some projects of his own to this beads and yarn masters, both of them found their work, the colors, the precision and the mystic symbology through which they tell their own story, their own conception of the universe in each of their pieces, fascinating.
We have been selling and exporting the huichol art for more than two years from Morelia, Michoacán, México. We are distinguished for selling unique and unconventional works of art.
ABOUT OUR PIECES
In Marakame we have works that have been developed in an artisanal way with two techniques: beaded and yarn painting, our pieces come from weeks to months of work, these pieces are the result of the artistic collaboration that we do with the most gifted Huichol families from the diverse communities of the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico, those who learn from their childhood these representative techniques of their culture.
Pieces such as the skulls of cattle are product of some Huichol traditional celebration and it is possible thanks to the pressing of more than 30 thousand beads, one by one by the hands of the Huichol artists.
We specialize in the projection and sale of pieces of collection and care along with the Huichol artists the impeccable manufacturing of each piece.
Each piece has embodied the elements on the worldview of these artists in a different way, what makes them be works of art unique and unrepeatable, because each artist has a way of expressing their feeling, their colors, their forms and visions, since the elements that have been translating for centuries by its spiritual importance, as the blue deer, the corn, the eagle and the peyote, all descended from their Sun God “Tau”; Pop up to symbology of the contemporary Huichol artists with a conceptual meaning, same as it has emerged from the Huichol culture and its shamanic traditions.

About us
Marakame is a brand that proposes a creative way to merge art, design and culture. We believe that we can converge this trilogy of concepts through our project of Diffusion and Commercialization of unique pieces of Art Wixárika (huichol). Our pieces are made by Huichol families from different rural communities that mainly live in the Sierra Madre Occidental of the state of Jalisco.
It is a joint idea of Marcela Abarca and Visual Artist Fernando Motilla, who found the beadwork and stamen work of the Huichol fascinating, so detailed in their color, precision, mystical symbolism and their conception of the universe; that the motive has made the revaluation of each piece made by these artists notorious and necessary and to place it as a living and pulsating history of contemporary indigenous culture of Mexico for the World.
The central idea of this project is also to disseminate, commercialize and revalue pieces of Huichol art, traditionally considered as "crafts"; it is to show that the realization of a piece and its mythical symbology are intimately intricate with a social and cultural dimension little known to the world. To this dimension, Marakame contributes in collateral aspects of support to the Huichol families, such as support for family health, support for the realization of their pre-Columbian customs, and the proposal to merge new techniques and materials to carry out the conventional Huichol art with beads and yarn.
