La maggior parte dei consigli sul risparmio energetico domestico sono o troppo vaghi per essere messi in pratica, oppure scritti da qualcuno che cerca di venderti qualcosa. Decode Energy è diverso.

Ho lavorato per oltre un decennio come energy manager, aiutando le aziende a risparmiare milioni di dollari sulle bollette energetiche. Lo stesso approccio che funzionava lì – misurare ciò che conta, intervenire su ciò che genera un ritorno sull'investimento e ignorare ciò che non lo fa – funziona altrettanto bene per le case e le piccole imprese. Semplicemente, raramente viene messo per iscritto in un linguaggio semplice e comprensibile.

Così ho iniziato a scriverlo. Le guide e gli strumenti di Decode Energy sono progettati per fare quattro cose principali: aiutarti a capire come utilizzi l'energia, identificare rapidamente dove si possono risparmiare, valutare il valore effettivo di ogni risparmio e agire in base a quelli più convenienti. Le guide forniscono dati tipici per il tuo paese, utili per una rapida consultazione e per stilare un elenco chiaro delle opzioni. Gli strumenti interattivi (in fase di sviluppo) vanno oltre, personalizzando i risultati in base ai tuoi dati, in modo che i numeri siano i tuoi e non una media.

Quando qualcosa non vale i soldi spesi, lo diciamo. Quando un aggiornamento "indispensabile" si ripaga in 20 anni, lo diciamo anche in quel caso. Questo è il punto.

Al momento sono disponibili guide per Australia, Stati Uniti e Regno Unito, mentre a breve saranno pubblicate anche quelle per Nuova Zelanda, Canada, Germania e Sudafrica. Sono in fase di sviluppo anche edizioni dedicate alle piccole imprese e strumenti interattivi.

I spent over a decade as an energy manager, helping organisations cut millions of dollars off their energy bills. It just rarely gets written down in plain English.

So I started writing it down. Decode Energy guides and tools are built to do the same four things: help you understand how you use energy, quickly identify where the savings are, assess what each one's actually worth, and act on the ones that pay off. Guides give you typical figures for your country — useful for a quick read-through and a clear shortlist. The interactive tools (in the works) go a step further, tailoring the results based on your inputs so the numbers are yours, not an average.

When something isn't worth the money, we say so. When a "must-have" upgrade has a 20-year payback, we say that too. That's the whole point.

Right now you'll find guides for Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom, with New Zealand, Canada, Germany and South Africa to follow. Small business editions and the interactive tools are in the works.
