Wrap bracelets woven together by hand with One Thread.
I've been a maker for as long as I can remember, always happiest when my hands are busy. Growing up, I gathered all kinds of odds and ends and stored them alongside tools and supplies in my very own kitchen cabinet (precious real estate in any kitchen I realize now - thanks, Mom). Over time, I downsized my cabinet and refined my collection. Only the best scraps of cord and thread and beads and ribbon and buttons and paper made it into the shoebox I took with me to college.
When my hands craved a project, I rifled through my shoebox to see what I could make. One afternoon, I pulled out faux leather cord, navy blue thread, a silver button, and enough jade and navy beads to make a woven wrap bracelet. My technique was clumsy and my aesthetic was unrefined, but my hands were busy and I was happy. Friends started asking about the bracelet, and slowly, I began sourcing better materials, refining my technique, developing new designs, and weaving these bracelets for friends of friends of friends. Many bracelets later, OneThreadCo was born.
The name OneThreadCo comes from an integral part of the design process. One 32ft thread is woven back and forth, back and forth down the length of each bracelet in a rhythm that is slow and sure and wonderfully old fashioned. A reminder that we don't need to keep up with the world around us. And while thread is often viewed as frail and fragile, here the thread is a source of strength and unity, bonding the whole bracelet together. A reminder that we are stronger than we know.
