The Red Bud encaustic (beeswax) & ink 60x60cms
My friends call me queenie bee because of my passion for painting on beeswax
Jean Davis is self taught encaustic artist of many years experience living high in the hills in the agricultural area of Silves. Encaustic is painting on board with beeswax & resin. I buy my beeswax from the local bee keeper in the field next to where I live. I melt the beeswax with resin and I sometimes use this with other products which I make into a liquid together with the secretion of a beetle from India. I paint on a wooden board with several coats of my beeswax mixture, each layer is fused together. When this process is cured I paint in ink which leaves a wonderful lustre to the finished product. In my studio, I make many of my own products and mix my own paints. These give each piece individual and complimentary colours that cannot be repeated making each painting unique. I love creativity and design; you will often find me in my studio with paint up to my elbows whilst trying out and mixing different products to achieve unique effects.
Each painting is recorded for its authenticity, signed and personally monogrammed with a wax seal by myself, the artist, and every piece is mounted & stands proud from the wall by 5.50cms in a wooden matt black surround, ready to hang.
