Announcement    Hello! I’m Paula Casella. Argentinian ceramist settled in Spain, proud mother and founder of Pottery Props.

Nature is my inspiration. Photography and good food are two of my passions.

That’s why, after a whole life making and teaching art, one day I decided to combine everything and opened this Etsy shop.

After all, you simply want your food pictures to look incredible, right?. So I’m happy to bring this special collection of unique ceramic pieces designed to fulfill your specific needs as a food stylist, a chef, a baker, or a food blogger.

Sometimes you may be troubled by that annoying glossy effect, props that do not exactly meet your idea, and pieces that turn up too flashy to use them more than once or twice.

Pottery Props is your place when looking for matte ceramics in neutral colors. Find a variety of shapes, sizes, and textures that enhance every photoshoot where food and drink should bright on their own.

Whatever your photographic style is, these pieces are simple and attractive enough to add a unique touch without being the focus of attention.

Not only do these props fit several purposes, but you can forget about difficult cleaning, water leaking, and fast cracking and breaking since they are waterproofed.

That means you can enjoy these ceramic pieces for a long time and simply rinse them with water. I guess you have funnier things to do than cleaning.

Fortunately, most of these pieces can be used in day-to-day life at home. However, it is not advisable to use those that come into contact with cutlery (such as plates, cups, and bowls) on a daily basis.

But maybe you would like to use them every day without any worries. Then you can make custom orders for enamel pieces, which are suitable for it. In that case, the pieces are coated on the visible side, and on the back, they have a sealant that prevents the formation of fungi. This product is a novelty on the market.

If you have a restaurant or a store, you can ask for custom and wholesale orders and enjoy an additional discount.

Whatever the use, surely you wish to keep the beauty of the pottery intact. So for care instructions, please see the corresponding section at the bottom of the page.

Remember these are artisan pieces. Be aware that the process of ceramic making takes at least four weeks. You should keep this in mind if you want tableware for a special celebration, such as your wedding or the opening of a restaurant, or for special dates like Christmas. So these orders must be made at least two months in advance.

Speckled bowls, black rustic tableware, artisan dishes made with heart... Stoneware handmade ceramic for culinary photography

Hi! I’m Pau (that’s what my friends call me, and so can you). I’ve been dedicated to pottery for several years now. I make plates for restaurants and individuals in my little workshop located in a beautiful Madrid neighbourhood. On top of that, I’m a ceramics teacher, and I currently have some online lessons uploaded in Domestika, a large platform made for artists and creators. If you want to enjoy clay in the comfort of your own home you just have to click on my Domestika profile. I would be delighted if I see you around there too.

I like to work in my favorite spot, which is my workplace (an atelier), for hours and hours straight. It is there where I design pieces that get to travel all around the world. But lately I’ve been thinking about doing something different. And I think I found it now.

I love designing tableware because lunchtime is a very special moment for me. I like clay on its own, without any enamels that may disrupt the true rustic and organic essence that it has. These types of pieces can’t be used with silverware, so I had to turn the idea around so the pieces could be useful. And the big amount of food pictures that I’m constantly seeing on social media gave me an idea: creating tableware for culinary styling.

I create each piece manually and individually, without any molds, that’s why every one is so unique and special. The more hand prints and less tool prints are in the piece, the better. I love watching my pieces dry as time goes by. I try to take care of them the best way I can, until it’s time to heat them, when the electric kiln helps finish this special and creative process. The fired temperature is above 1240ºC, that’s why the pieces are so resistant. But clay isn’t 100% waterproof, and because it doesn’t have any enamels, it could get stains. That’s why I use a sealer that’s suitable for food use. The pieces are now waterproof so you can use them over and over again in your photo sessions, rinsing them with just water. I know you time is money.

You can also use them in your kitchen: if you like them that much, why not use and enjoy them at home too? So, regardless of your profession or lifestyle, I’m sure that if you’re here it’s because there’s a Pottery Props piece made just for you.

I hope you have a wonderful day,
Paula Casella

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

If you want a customized order, don’t hesitate to contact me. Together we can design the pieces you’re looking for.

Care instructions

The pieces should be rinsed just with water, avoiding detergents and chemical products. They are dishwasher proof, but I recommend washing them by hand. They can be stored in the fridge and put in the microwave. The pieces that have details made with cork or wood should be cleaned with a damp cloth.

Gift wrapping and packaging

You can ask for the gift wrapping service. The pieces will be wrapped in a white silk paper and tied with a hemp or jute rope. If you want to add a note, we will write it with a writing machine over an artisanal type of paper, made purely by hand.

Wholesale availability

I do wholesale commissions. Send me a message stating the quantity and the pieces you’d like to buy and I will make a special budget for you including a generous discount.
