RootedOT started at our kitchen table.
One of us is a licensed occupational therapist. The other spends his days solving complicated problems for a living — cybersecurity, data systems, the kind of work that rewards careful thinking. Neither of those things sounds like “handmade Etsy shop,” and yet here we are.
It started small: our son needed things that didn’t quite exist — tools that respected how her brain and body actually work, instead of asking her to work around them. So we made them ourselves. Word got around. Other parents asked for the same thing. Then teachers. Then other OTs.
RootedOT grew out of that — practical, honestly-made tools for regulation, focus, and connection. Some are for individuals looking for a little help finding calm. Some are for parents supporting a child through sensory challenges or an IEP meeting. Some are for the OT professionals doing this work every day, who deserve better systems than a stack of sticky notes.
Everything here is designed with real clinical knowledge, not just good intentions — and everything is built to be used. Printed. Filled in. Referenced during a hard week. Worn out, not just admired.
