My love of working with wood
Hice mi primera casa de muñecas hace más de 20 años. Tener tres hijos significaba que siempre estaba rodeada de coches, trenes y figuras de acción. Construir mi primera casa de muñecas me llevó dos años y la guardé a salvo en mi habitación.
Tenía muchas ganas de tener otra casa de muñecas, pero por falta de espacio empecé a hacer miniaturas en cajas para regalos familiares. Así nació Shadow Boxes.
Me encanta el desafío de hacer un artículo en miniatura a partir de restos y agregarle un toque personal a cualquier encargo que hago.
Lo que empezó en la mesa del comedor ahora se ha trasladado al taller del ático. Este es el lugar perfecto, justo debajo de la ventana Velux, para disfrutar de la luz natural.
Hace siete años compré mi primer pirograbador y lo encuentro muy terapéutico; me encanta trabajar con madera. Mi pasión por la madera me ha dado el nuevo oficio del torneado, que disfruto muchísimo. Uso un minitorno para mis creaciones, así que puedo tornear cuencos pequeños, casitas para pájaros y algunas miniaturas, pero mi objetivo es comprar un torno más grande.
Encuentro que mi amor por la madera funciona bien con las miniaturas, la pirograbado y el torneado de madera, ya que puedo combinar los tres.
Bueno, en 2020 compré un torno más grande y ahora la mayor parte de mi tiempo lo paso girando y experimentando con nuevas ideas.
Vendo mis artesanías en mercados locales en Gloucestershire, pero mi tienda principal es ésta en Etsy.
I made my first Dolls House over 20 years ago. Having three sons meant I was always surrounded by cars, trains and action figures. Building my first dolls house took 2 years and was safely stored in my bedroom.
I really wanted another dolls house but due to lack of space I started to make miniatures in boxes for family presents. This is where Shadow Boxes started.
I love the challenge of making a miniature item from odds'n'ends and adding a personal touch to any commission i do.
What started on the dining room table has now moved into the attic workshop. This is the perfect place right under the velux window for natural light.
Seven years ago I bought my first Pyrography iron and I find it very therapeutic and love working with wood. My love of wood has now given me the new craft of wood turning which I enjoy tremendously. I am using a mini lathe for my creations so can turn small bowls, birdhouses and some miniatures but my goal is to buy a larger lathe.
I find that my love of wood works well with the miniatures, pyrography and wood turning which I can combine all three.
Well in 2020 I bought a larger lathe and now most of my time Is spent turning and experimenting with new ideas.
