¿Quién es Solmode?
Soy diseñadora, creadora, soñadora, artista, maker, curiosa y propietaria de Solmode. Creo en lo hecho a mano con amor y en el diseño lento. Me encanta el reciclaje, la sostenibilidad, la pequeña escala y la pureza.
Mi historia:
Las semillas se sembraron hace muchos años. Cuando era una niña, mi abuela me estimuló a las manualidades. Después de esto, estudié en una escuela de comercio de moda para obtener más habilidades técnicas. Sin mencionar las innumerables horas que me podías encontrar en numerosos talleres y lugares de trabajo de artistas y artesanos amigos. Todo eso me aprendió el arte de la artesanía y me dio las agallas para seguir mi pasión.
Nacido en Nimega en 1978, fui conducido al sur de los Países Bajos por el amor. Después de que el amor terminó, me quedé sin embargo. Viví, trabajé y organicé durante 15 años en dos zonas francas culturales diferentes. Lugares donde aprendí sobre una vida más sostenible.
En este tiempo pensé en cómo podía justificar lo que estaba haciendo. Principalmente hice disfraces de pvc. Inspirado por una nueva forma de vivir y pensar, decidí dejar mi trabajo en 2007 y comenzar con Solmode. Desde ese día trabajo duro por mi gran sueño de mi marca de moda sostenible.
Al igual que las telas con las que trabajo, mi forma de trabajar también es muy orgánica. Por lo general, empiezo con la tela y trato de ver qué diseño encajaría. Trabajar con reciclaje y telas vintage, te lleva a formas, enfoques y elaboración completamente nuevos. De esta manera salen a la luz one-offs y pequeñas series. Por ejemplo, reutilizo corbatas viejas y las convierto en envolturas y vestidos extravagantes para los hombros. Diseñar moda es una búsqueda artística. Siempre trato de capturar la emoción en mis diseños y trato de crear una experiencia sensual.
Al equilibrar entre estar en el negocio y permanecer fiel a mis ideales, actualmente estoy diseñando una nueva serie de ropa. Creaciones que se pueden personalizar permitiendo al cliente elegir entre diferentes mangas, líneas de cuello, longitud y color. Todo hecho de telas orgánicas.
También trabajo en la asignación. Siempre es extraordinario hacer algo especial en mi estilo para alguien.
Tengo un gran taller en Het Werkgebouw en Maastricht. Este es un colectivo de artesanos. El carácter sostenible de tener un edificio común y crear una plataforma para la artesanía local me atrae. Juntos pueden lograr más que estar solos en una isla.
Además de los lugares de trabajo, tenemos una tienda que es administrada por nosotros por turnos. Los visitantes pueden venir allí todos los fines de semana.

Who is Solmode?
I'm a designer, creator, dreamer, artist, maker, curious and owner of Solmode. I believe in handmade with love and in slow design. I love recycling, sustainability, small scale and purity.
My story:
The seeds were sown many years ago. When I was a young girl , my grandmother stimulated me to crafts. After this I studied at a fashiontrade school to obtain more technical skills. Not to mention the countless hours you could find me in numerous ateliers, and workplaces of befriended artists and craftsmen. All that learned me the art of craftsmanship and gave me the guts to follow my passion.
Born in Nijmegen in 1978, I was driven to the south of The Netherlands by love. After the love ended, I stayed nonetheless. I lived, worked and organized for 15 years in two different cultural free-zones. Places where I learned about a more sustainable living.
In this time I thought about how I could justify what I was doing. I mainly made costumes out of pvc. Inspired by a new way of living and thinking I decided to quit my job in 2007 and start with Solmode. Since that day I work hard for my big dream of my sustainable fashion label.
Like the fabrics I work with, my way of working is also very organic. I usually start with the fabric and try to see which design would fit. Working with recycling and vintage fabrics, brings you to entirely new forms, approaches and elaboration. In this way one-offs and small series come to light. For example I reuse old ties and make them into quirky shoulder wraps and dresses. Designing fashion is an artistic search. I always try to capture emotion in my designs and try to create a sensual experience.
By balancing between being in business while remaining true to my ideals I'm currently designing a new series of clothing. Creations that can be customized by allowing the customer to choose from different sleeves, neck lines, length and color. All made from organic fabrics.
I also work on assignment. It's always extra-ordinary to make something special in my style for someone.
I have a great atelier at Het Werkgebouw in Maastricht. This is a collective of craftsmen. The sustainable character of having a common building and creating a platform for local craftsmanship attracts me. Together you can achieve more than being alone on an island.
Besides the workplaces we have a shop that is run by us in turns. Visitors can come there every weekend.
