Quem é Solmode?
Sou designer, criador, sonhador, artista, criador, curioso e dono da Solmode. Acredito em feito à mão com amor e em design lento. Adoro reciclagem, sustentabilidade, pequena escala e pureza.
Minha história:
As sementes foram semeadas há muitos anos. Quando eu era jovem, minha avó me estimulava a artesanato. Depois disso, estudei em uma escola de moda para obter mais habilidades técnicas. Sem mencionar as incontáveis horas que você poderia me encontrar em inúmeros ateliês, e locais de trabalho de artistas e artesãos amigos. Tudo o que me aprendeu a arte do artesanato e me deu a coragem de seguir minha paixão.
Nascido em Nijmegen em 1978, fui levado para o sul da Holanda por amor. Depois que o amor acabou, eu fiquei mesmo assim. Vivi, trabalhei e organizei por 15 anos em duas zonas livres culturais diferentes. Lugares onde aprendi sobre uma vida mais sustentável.
Neste tempo eu pensei em como eu poderia justificar o que eu estava fazendo. Eu principalmente fiz fantasias de pvc. Inspirada em uma nova forma de viver e pensar, decidi largar meu emprego em 2007 e começar pela Solmode. Desde aquele dia eu trabalho duro para o meu grande sonho da minha marca de moda sustentável.
Como os tecidos com os qual trabalho, minha forma de trabalhar também é muito orgânica. Eu costumo começar com o tecido e tentar ver qual design caberia. Trabalhar com reciclagem e tecidos vintage, traz formas, abordagens e elaboração totalmente novas. Desta forma, one-offs e pequenas séries vêm à tona. Por exemplo, eu reuso gravatas velhas e as faço em envoltórios e vestidos peculiares. Projetar moda é uma busca artística. Eu sempre tento capturar a emoção em meus desenhos e tentar criar uma experiência sensual.
Ao equilibrar-se entre estar no negócio enquanto permanece fiel aos meus ideais, estou projetando uma nova série de roupas. Criações que podem ser personalizadas permitindo que o cliente escolha entre diferentes mangas, linhas de pescoço, comprimento e cor. Tudo feito de tecidos orgânicos.
Eu também trabalho em uma missão. É sempre extra-comum fazer algo especial no meu estilo para alguém.
Tenho um ótimo ateliê em Het Werkgebouw em Maastricht. Este é um coletivo de artesãos. O caráter sustentável de ter um edifício comum e criar uma plataforma para o artesanato local me atrai. Juntos você pode conseguir mais do que ficar sozinho em uma ilha.
Além dos locais de trabalho, temos uma loja que é administrada por nós em turnos. Os visitantes podem ir lá todo fim de semana.

Who is Solmode?
I'm a designer, creator, dreamer, artist, maker, curious and owner of Solmode. I believe in handmade with love and in slow design. I love recycling, sustainability, small scale and purity.
My story:
The seeds were sown many years ago. When I was a young girl , my grandmother stimulated me to crafts. After this I studied at a fashiontrade school to obtain more technical skills. Not to mention the countless hours you could find me in numerous ateliers, and workplaces of befriended artists and craftsmen. All that learned me the art of craftsmanship and gave me the guts to follow my passion.
Born in Nijmegen in 1978, I was driven to the south of The Netherlands by love. After the love ended, I stayed nonetheless. I lived, worked and organized for 15 years in two different cultural free-zones. Places where I learned about a more sustainable living.
In this time I thought about how I could justify what I was doing. I mainly made costumes out of pvc. Inspired by a new way of living and thinking I decided to quit my job in 2007 and start with Solmode. Since that day I work hard for my big dream of my sustainable fashion label.
Like the fabrics I work with, my way of working is also very organic. I usually start with the fabric and try to see which design would fit. Working with recycling and vintage fabrics, brings you to entirely new forms, approaches and elaboration. In this way one-offs and small series come to light. For example I reuse old ties and make them into quirky shoulder wraps and dresses. Designing fashion is an artistic search. I always try to capture emotion in my designs and try to create a sensual experience.
By balancing between being in business while remaining true to my ideals I'm currently designing a new series of clothing. Creations that can be customized by allowing the customer to choose from different sleeves, neck lines, length and color. All made from organic fabrics.
I also work on assignment. It's always extra-ordinary to make something special in my style for someone.
I have a great atelier at Het Werkgebouw in Maastricht. This is a collective of craftsmen. The sustainable character of having a common building and creating a platform for local craftsmanship attracts me. Together you can achieve more than being alone on an island.
Besides the workplaces we have a shop that is run by us in turns. Visitors can come there every weekend.
