You can't kill the entrepreneurial spirit!
Der Funke, der zu diesem Etsy-Shop führte, begann 2007, als ich einen Stand auf einem Flohmarkt in Jewett City, CT, eröffnete. Dort verkaufte ich esoterische Schmuckstücke aus der ganzen Welt sowie alle seltsamen Dinge, die ich bei Auktionen oder Hofverkäufen abholen konnte. Ein Freund von mir schlug mir vor, Steampunk-Schmuck herzustellen, um meine Waren für den Flohmarktstand zu erweitern, und durch diesen Freund fand ich Etsy, dem ich im Dezember 2007 beigetreten bin.
Zuerst war ich entschlossen, nur Steampunk-Schmuck und Zines über meinen Etsy-Shop zu verkaufen und experimentierte mit allen möglichen verschiedenen Kunstwerken, um zu sehen, was hängen bleiben würde. Ich blieb bei dem Schmuck und verzweigte mich in den Verkauf von Bastelbedarf und dann Vintage, und mein Laden wuchs! Ich fand eine unerwartete Leidenschaft für Strandkämmen und Knöpfe.
Ich habe von 2010-2014 eine Pause eingelegt, um mich auf meine Karriere als Fotograf zu konzentrieren, aber jetzt bin ich zurück. Ich arbeite immer noch als Fotograf und Schriftsteller auf freiberuflicher Basis in der Gegend von Connecticut.
Im Jahr 2014 kehrte ich zu Etsy zurück, nachdem ich nun die Zeit gefunden hatte, mich wieder dem zu widmen, und mit einem neuen Produkt, meinen Juwelenkühlschrankmagneten! Ich hatte ursprünglich 2009 angefangen, sie zu machen, habe sie aber erst in diesem Jahr aufgelistet. Im Jahr 2015 fand ich endlich eine Stimme in meinen Schmuckkreationen und brachte meine Wickelarmbänder auf den Markt. Meine Wickelarmbänder sind nicht nur einfache alte Perlen, sie sind eine schillernde Sammlung von Halbedelsteinspänen, neuen und alten tschechischen Glasperlen von hoher Qualität, Charme aller Art und in lebendigen Farben zusammengebaut. Die Knöpfe übernahmen jedoch die Oberhand und der "Bastelraum" wurde allmählich zum "Knopfraum".
Es wurde klar, dass meine Etsy-Bemühungen meinem alten Branding entwachsen waren und ich benannte den Shop im Mai 2015 in "Blithe Button" um. Ein Großteil meines Schmucks beinhaltet Knöpfe und ich verkaufe als Händler mehr Knöpfe als alles andere, daher war es sinnvoll, mein Branding auf Knöpfe zu konzentrieren. Ich bin der National Button Society, der Connecticut State Button Society und dem Nutmeg Button Club beigetreten, um mein Spiel wirklich zu verbessern und genau zu wissen, was all diese Knöpfe sind, die ich jeden Tag sehe. Ich bin einer der wenigen Etsy-Button-Händler, der Buttons in großen Mengen nach Material und nicht nur nach Farbe anbietet. Ich habe sogar die einzigen bekannten Beispiele für bestimmte Knöpfe entdeckt! Es ist sicherlich spannend, wenn man einfach nicht weiß, was man in einem Haufen alter Knöpfe umdrehen wird!
Als ich zum ersten Mal zu Etsy gekommen war, bekamen viele meiner Freunde Babys, und ich wollte eine Familie gründen, aber es war einfach nicht die Zeit. Trotzdem fühlte ich diesen unbestreitbaren Drang, ETWAS zu schaffen, als würde ich explodieren, also goss ich diese Energie in meinen Schmuck und meinen Laden zu der Zeit. Jetzt bin ich Mutter eines kleinen Jungen!
In meiner Freizeit (hahahaha! Was ist das?!) Ich bin der Präsident der Sterling Historical Society in Connecticut und mache genealogische und historische Forschung.
The spark which led to this Etsy shop began in 2007 when I opened a booth in a flea market in Jewett City, CT. There, I would sell esoteric trinkets from all over the world as well as whatever odd things I could pick up at auction or yardsales. A friend of mine suggested I start making steampunk jewelry to expand my wares for the flea market booth, and it was through that friend that I found Etsy, which I joined December 2007.
At first, I was determined to sell only steampunk jewelry and zines through my Etsy store and experimented with all kinds of different art to see what would stick. I stuck with the jewelry and branched out into selling craft supplies and then vintage, and my shop grew! I found an unexpected passion for beachcombing and buttons.
I took a hiatus from 2010-2014 to focus on my photography career, but now I'm back. I still work as a photographer and writer on a freelance basis around the Connecticut area.
In 2014, I returned to Etsy having now found the time to devote to it again, and with a new product, my jewel fridge magnets! I had originally started making them in 2009 but didn't list until that year. In 2015, I finally found a voice in my jewelry creations and launched my wrap bracelets. My wrap bracelets are not just plain old beads, they are a dazzling collection of semiprecious stone chips, new and vintage Czech glass beads of high quality, charms of all kinds and assembled in vibrant colors. However the buttons were taking over and the "craft room" gradually became the "button room."
It was becoming clear that my Etsy endeavors had outgrown my old branding and I rebranded the shop "Blithe Button" in May 2015. A lot of my jewelry involves buttons and I sell more buttons as a dealer than anything else, so it made sense to focus my branding around buttons. I joined the National Button Society, the Connecticut State Button Society, and the Nutmeg Button Club to really up my game and know exactly what all these buttons are that I see every day. I am one of the few Etsy button dealers who offers buttons in bulk by material and not just color. I have even discovered the only known examples of certain buttons! It is certainly exciting when you just don't know what you will turn over in a pile of old buttons!
When I had first joined Etsy, a lot of my friends were having babies, and I wanted to start a family but it just wasn't time. Still, I felt this undeniable urge to create SOMETHING, like I was exploding, so I poured that energy into my jewelry and shop at the time. Now I'm a mom to a little boy!
In my spare time (hahahaha! What's that?!) I am the president of the Sterling Historical Society in Connecticut and do genealogical and historical research.
